A.Q. Group~Seasonal Art Quilt

Let's live up to the name Artistic Quilters. If you are unfamiliar with the term "art quilt" this is the perfect time and place to discover what a world of creative possibility exists. If possible, purchase a copy of Quilting Arts Magazine -- at least check it out online. But that is only the beginning of the possibilities. Literally thousands of art quilters have blogs you can read frequently.

For this first art quilt swap you will research the possibilities and then make a uniquely your quiltie expressing something about WINTER. The size will be no smaller than 4x6 and no larger than 12x12. It will be a complete quilt, top, batting and backing. You will find it unless you chose to leave the batting exposed to suggest snow -- yes! That's a possibility for an art quilt. You will have one partner. There will be a generous period before sign ups end so people unfamiliar with this idea can do some research, on line or in book stores, and decide it this is a kind of quilting you wish to do. There will be a generous period also for creating your quilt because it may be new to many.

These are professional art quilters so it's top notch art -- not what we'll aspire to just yet. Check out a book from Lark Press called 12x12 which is generously illustrated with art quilts that are all 12x12 inches, The quilters talk about their methods. If you're near a quilt fabric shop check out their books for art quilts, there will be some but not many.
