Description:

I'm always terribly interested in people's day-to-day lives. That's probably why I watch so many documentaries. When I receive a penpal letter and the author speaks of their house or their pets I always envision what they look like. In this swap, I'd like to reveal the mystery!

So, you're going buy a new disposable camera and use ALL of it to take photos of your house, your cat, your neighborhood, your spouse, your car...whatever you want to share with a swapper. Make it themed if you want: snap photos of your city's landmarks or natural landscape. Take twenty-five photos of yourself in different wigs...whatever! (With that being said, I would totally be excited about a bunch of wig photos).

Then, you're mailing off the camera to your partner. They'll develop it.

It would probably be a good idea to write a short note to accompany your camera, but don't disclose too much of the content of the photos. It will spoil the surprise of developing them.

A few rules:

-No nudity or illegal activities, please! These cameras will be developed by professionals, so don't embarass your swap partner!

-Try to be mindful of people's dislikes and do a profile browse before your photo expedition. If someone is afraid of bugs or clowns; don't take photos of them.

-Don't try to be Ansel Adams. When a photo has heart, it's always beautiful!

The business:

-This swap is open to swappers with a 4.8 rating or higher who have completed at least five Type 3 swaps.

-I will be checking for any 1s or 3s within the last six months. If you have any, contact me and we can discuss. Everyone makes mistakes, and there's no reason to get sassy about it.

-Any questions? Contact me directly.

I'm giving a fairly long period to take the photos and mail off the camera, so please take the kind of photos that you would like to receive.

Hopefully, you can take a peek into a place you've never been!

**Update: I'm willing to angel this swap, but I'm hoping that I don't have to!

Are disposable cameras a universal thing? Like if I take pics and have to send my camera to England, will they be able to develope the camera there? That seems unlikely. This may need to be a regional swap?

Savannah. As a photographer... yes photo processing is universal

Lolli92imo 04/15/2012 #

This sounds pretty awesome, am watching for now : )

This sounds so fun, plus I love that the dates allow it to get a little warmer so I can go outside!

savannahjan 04/15/2012 #

I'm glad it's universal because I'm very interested in this idea. :)

EsmeAna 04/17/2012 #

This has to be one of the most exciting swaps on here!

leashingfear 04/18/2012 #

Do you think we could set up a joint flickr account where we could all upload the photos after we've developed them? I think that would be a cool additional requirement for the swap. I'd like to see all of them, not just what I receive. :) I'm still watching for now. :)

Great idea! What if I cant find a disposable camera? Can i send a roll of film instead?

EsmeAna 04/19/2012 #

@sweetcandylove I bought one from eBay as a lot of my local shops no longer carry them! It was pretty cheap too!

Aidan 04/19/2012 #

What a great idea- I wish I could join. I hope it comes up again when I am no longer a Newbie!

ItschyKitschy 04/19/2012 #

@sweetcandylove I'd prefer to keep it to the Disposable camera for now, just to keep it consistent. If you'd like, you can set up a similar swap that deals with rolls of film. That'd be cool!

@Aidan If this swap takes off, I'll host a #2 that includes newer swappers. So keep an eye out!

leashingfear - i have no scanner, so i wouldn't be able to upload the photos unless i took photos of the photos. not exactly advisable :p

This is an AWESOME idea. Darn my newbieness!

hachiko 04/22/2012 #

Hi! I am also a newbie and watching your swap. This sounds really fun! Maybe us newbies should join forces to create our own swap like this! Lol!

Naeco 04/23/2012 #

[: This makes me happy. I have no money right now, so you could say I'm window swap shopping, but this is a great idea. Keep on with the thinking!
