If you put "Do not Bend" on the envelope you are supposed to add a 20 cent stamp for non-machinable. Usually they get through, but I get a lot of postage due when I receive them that way.

I never knew that. The people at the post office have never said that. Wow!!!

I never knew that either - I do it all the time on letters - since I collect autographs I only send 4x6 photos to people & put them in a regular envelope - I've probably sent 1,000 letters that way that say 'Do Not Bend' and it only cost me 45 cents for every letter. It may just depend on the post office?

I guess so,lol!! Maybe mine is strict! They tell me if it says not to bend, then it is considered non-machinable, therefore the 20 cents!

cerenaleigh 05/ 4/2012 #

if you write "please try not to bend!" then that should get around it!

KellyS 05/ 6/2012 #

Yep, my post office can be pretty strict too. I just add the extra postage most of the time.

KellyS 05/ 6/2012 #

Also, if you are sending them that way, you may never know how many arrived postage due. Just a thought.

So weird! I've never had an issue before. I just sent an oversized postcard out to someone and on the postcard it said letter rate so I put a 45 cent stamp. The person got it postage due for 20 cents. The other person I sent an oversized postcard to they never got postage due. And I asked my PO before I sent the card if 45 cents would be enough - they said yes.

So confusing! Post office's should be the same everywhere! Argh!

@kayler00 - I have sent out a few very oversized pc's - I can't remember the actual amount, but I had to pay the "large envelope" rate because of the size. They was about 8' X 11"! The ones bigger than 5" X 7" usually do cost more as well as many shaped postcards. But yeah...you'd think there would be a set rule for every PO and not leave it to each postal worker's imagination!! lol!

kayler00 05/ 8/2012 #

Oh goodness! My pc wasn't as big as 8x10 not even close but perhaps a bit bigger than 5x7 - it was oversized & a diecut but it wasn't much bigger than 5x7.

But damn... now that I know that it just sucks I'll have to pay extra just so I "hope" it will not get sent to them postage due. It's weird though that none of my SASE that I send to celebrities come back to me postage due - I always write DO NOT BEND on them and only put a 45 cent stamp and those come back from all over the US. Stupid post office.

It is really silly that the USPS doesn't abide by the same guidelines everywhere. I never tell a partner if I get something postage due unless it's a package with one 45 cent stamp on it or something ridiculous! Usually it's just 20 cents. I have even had ones delivered postage due to my PO box and they don't charge me it,lol! Just is stamped with the amount, no envelope to pay or a slip to get the envie AFTER I pay...! Who knows!!!
