Description:

Phew! Holidays are past, let's ... inspire our partner. PM your receiving partner a list of at least 4 quotes or sayings that you think might inspire her/ him, based on partner's profile. (Shorter is probably easier, but if you are up to the challenge, they could be longer quotes.) Your partner will respond to your message, identifying at least one that you sent, and adding 2 more of her/ his own.

Now comes the really fun part! We will make our receiving partner a banner or garland that incorporates at least one of the quotes our partner liked or shared. This can be a paper craft, a fabric craft, a ??? craft; it can incorporate felt or beads or shells or any material that you enjoy working with or that supports the message. It can be short or long. It can be made with photocopied pages from the book that inspired the quote. It can have figures from the movie that inspired the quote. It can contain multiple quotes. It can contain the same quote in multiple languages. The garland can represent something about the quote -- a season, a feeling, a belief.

Can't wait to see what we come up with to inspire us in the New Year!

So does each word or letter have to be on its own, or each a separate piece of the banner? Or when you say quote, does the banner just have to relate to the quote somehow but not say it? Sorry, I'm a little confused :)

That is a good question. I was thinking about that as I wrote the description and think it is really open to interpretation. A short quote would be easy to do as a letter on each flag/ origami star/ strip of fabric/ whatever you use. I made a garland a long time ago with those tiny folded stars that had a word on each star -- hard to see, but meaningful because the words were things that my then-boyfriend (now husband) liked to do on dates. I could see other people using symbols or pictures to make the quote, or using symbols and letters. I think the written quote should be somewhere on the banner, even if it is on a separate tag that hangs by itself?

But I am open to suggestions ... I'd love to make this a fun, creative, not overwhelming swap!

One more question - so the receiving partner ultimately gets to choose the quote/phrase they'll receive? Then why not just have the receiving partners just pm their partners with 4 quotes for them to choose from to make for the receivers? Sorry, not trying to be a pain, I've just had some issues of my own with my swap descriptions & wording :)

No worries, I just thought that it might be fun to get some new ideas for quotes from your swap partner. If you think it might be easier/ more clear to just contact your receiving partner for 4 quote possibilities and you pick which one to make, I am more than willing to change the wording. I tend towards the unnecessarily complex sometimes!

Sounds fun! I'm in :)

Yay! I am happy to re-work the description as well, if it needs tweaking!
