Description:

My kids and I always enjoy the countdown to Christmas, starting December 1. I thought it would be fun to create 25 different Inchies to trade, which can then be used to create an advent calendar. I will probably make a 2-D tree with magnets and attach the Inchies that I receive in this swap.

If you don't know, Inchies are tiny artworks that are one inch square. They must be thick and sturdy so that they can be used to embellish an advent calendar.

You will create five Inchies for five partners, making a total of 25. Please do not put numbers on the front of the inchies, since you will not know what numbers your partners will need. Just make each inchie fitting for a holiday theme (Santas, snowmen, reindeer, candy canes, holly, gingerbread men, etc.).

Do your best work. Just because the surface is tiny, doesn't mean you should just put one thing on it. You can make tiny collages, ink the edges, add doodles, embellish, etc. I often coat mine with diamond glaze or another gloss to really make it seem polished. It can be a challenge to cut Inchies into perfect squares, so I use a 1"square punch. For sturdy backs, I purchase precut inchie squares online from a website, www.ellenhutson.com

Be certain you sign the backs of your inchies with your username or real name, and the date.

Hello, Never made inchies before but Im assuming that inchies rules are very similar to ATC rules, is this correct. We can use any medium and embellishments etc. Also when making this advent calendar do we use many different styles for each inchie Ie: one inchie Contemporary, another inchie vintage, another inchie Country, etc. etc. Or should all 25 be the same style. Please advise so I dont sign up and disapoint someone. I hope this makes sense.

Hi @ladycregga if you want magnets i found Business cards that have magnets on them and cut to the size i need and glue them on it works real nice

You can create the Inchies in any style you wish. The only theme is Christmas. The only differences between Inchies and ATCs are, obviously, the size (1"), and they are a bit thicker typically. I yes matboard, but you can recycle cereal boxes, too. I'm also a bit of a fanatic about sealing my Inchies using some type of Glossy Accent or Mod Podge so stuff doesn't fall off. Since the surface area is so small, you have to think differently about the composition of an Inchie.
