Description:

For this swap we'll be swapping monoprints made using the Gelli Arts printing plate or a homemade gelatin plate.

The details:

  • 6 prints for 1 partner.
  • Prints are sender's choice in color, style, and theme, and should be anywhere between 4"x6" and 6"x6" (5"x7" is also fine, just trying to keep these within range to mail in a 6"x9" envelope).
  • Mix and match papers used to make the prints, making 3 prints with plain, white paper (even cheap copy paper is fine), and 3 prints with white cardstock.
  • Use any monoprint techniques you wish, but please don't add anything extra to the finished print. We're swapping just prints this time, free of embellishments or any extra add-ons.
  • If you'd like, sign the back of your print. It's not required, but could help a partner to distinguish between different people's prints.
  • Please send prints you are proud of and that you'd be happy to receive yourself.

Just for clarification and future reference -- when you say "monoprint techniques" does that include spritzing glimmer mist through a stencil as a final touch? Or daubbing paint through a stencil as part of your design? Or do you mean the only things on the print comes from pressing the paper onto your gelatin plate (where of course you can use stencils, etc.)

Does that make sense?.

It does make sense, and my meaning was we just send prints that were made by only pressing the paper to the plate without anything added after the fact. However, if everyone would like to allow minor additions to be included, such as what you're talking about, Michele, I'd be fine with that. Basically, I just didn't want the prints to be extremely changed or altered after the printing process, thereby making it more of a mixed media thing.

So what say you ladies? I'm fine with tweaking the swap a bit.

No problem with no tweaking. To me you were perfectly clear in only wanting what you can get from pressing your paper onto the plate. I just wanted to be sure I was one the right track.

So we can use a stencil or items to create texture on the plate, but not add anything after we press our print...is that right?

bluemonkeymama 01/14/2014 #

Yep, that's exactly right, @nermalski . You can use anything you want on the plate itself to make the print, just nothing added after it's been pulled. Feel free to use layers, too, as long as it's all done on the plate.
