Description:

On December 5, 1931, the Citizen's Bank of Tenino, Washington failed and created a shortage of money. This left the merchants of the area unable to get change without traveling about 30 miles over mountainous roads in automobiles ill suited to that purpose, on roads that were built for horses and mules to traverse. The average round trip was about four hours. A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce resulted in the local newspaper printing up the first issue of wooden money in the United States.

I drove through the little town of Tenino (T-9-0) just today and since I have a bunch of wooden nickels so I thought I would host a swap for them. Since its almost the anniversary of the banks failure it’s a good time for a swap. By the way the bank building is still there.

This swap is to send your partner a wooden nickel or coin of some kind.

Disclaimers and such. I reserve the right to ban people. Please sign and check the swap within 3 days of the sign up date so I know you are still interested in taking part. Only active rated people not rating less that 4.98. Please have your full last name in your contact info. If you are not willing to share that info don’t join please. No unexplained 1’s or 3’s. Please rate when you get your swap.

Recap The requirement's for this swap are: Send a wooden nickel or coin to your partner. Senders choice. Since wooden coins are thick make sure you reinforce your envie properly and it will cost more for postage please keep this in mind.

They are often a themed souvenir now printed for the institute selling them. Check historic houses and restorations or history museums I know a few places here in NYC that have had them in the gift shops. I'm not sure if they still do.
