April is National Poetry Month. It's time to celebrate our love of the art! This is the third of a four-week series. The swap will involve two tasks: 1) This exercise is from a book titled The Practice of Poetry. On page 155, there's an exercise called "Writing Between the Lines." Here is what you will do: Take a poem you admire and retype it so that there is space to write between each line. Then write your own line in each of those spaces. Next, take the scaffolding down and see what kind of poem you've written between the lines. Provide both the original poem and your poem. 2) Include a note about two poets whose work you enjoy, and recommend which published collections a new reader might start with to get acquainted. You will send these two items to two people. This is sender's choice! You can get started now and be ready to send once partners are assigned. No 1 ratings for the last six months. No unresolved 3s (email me if in doubt). Newbies are welcome if they have a filled-out profile. I will check! Not every poem will "speak" to you! If you receive one poem by the swapper (written according to the exercise) and the note with recommended poets, you must rate a 5. |
