Description:

This is the first in a series of JournalPals swaps. In these swaps, you will be provided a topic on which to make a journal entry. Your journaling can be written (hand or typed), visual, or a combination of the two. Make whatever type of journal entry you would like -- however long or short, and send it on to 1 partner.

The topic for this swap is Who Am I? You can create any type of entry that conveys who you are. Write a letter, make a list, create a brainstorming map, make a collage, make a sketch -- have fun creating an entry that is one or more of these things, or something else that is an unique as you are.

I will limit JournalPals swaps to those with 4.5 ratings or higher and whose current swaps have been sent. I've found that swaps with a large number of people tend to have a lot of flakers, so I will limit the swap to 25 people. If I have to drop people because we have too many sign ups, I will keep people who have successfully participated in previous JournalPals swaps (of course, this doesn't apply to this first one). I will do this so that swappers are more likely to be matched up more than once and have a chance to get to know each other.

I have created a group blog where all swap members can post their journal entry after it has been mailed and received by your partner. You can either scan and post an image or type your entry. This is not a requirement, just an option. I plan to post all of my entries for this swap here. If you would like to post to this blog, e-mail me with your address and I'll give you access. Click on the link above to see the blog.

Please post if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to creating these regular swaps and getting to know fellow journalers on Swap-Bot!

Two questions:

Are there set dimensions for the journal entries? I know you said they can be any length, but do you want the paper their on to be a certain size, to bring continuity to the journals?

Will posting in the blog be manditory? I don't have a scanner. Would digital pics work? :)

This sounds like a really great project. Not only is it fun, but it's portable. I can do this between classes and at work! Yay!

There's no size requirement for your journal entry. I know each person has a preference for the type of paper they like to work on, so go with what is comfortable for you.

Posting in the blog is not mandatory. It's just an option. And, even if you don't choose to post on the blog, you can come and see what other members have posted and leave comments.

I'm glad you like this swap. I find the journal swaps that require several entries or a long time period to be a bit overwhelming. I know I can make the time to make one entry.

Have fun!

Hmmm, so basically we send (and receive) one journal entry and then if we join other journal pals swaps we will start getting enough entries from others to combine them into a journal?

AshleyShea 09/ 3/2008 #

Bucket, you can certainly do that if you want to. Some will join just to share single journal entries.

My intention is to have one JournalPal's swap end each week. So, if you wanted to sign up for all of them, it wouldn't be long before you had a fun and varied collection of entries.

I love the idea but it does seem a bit confusing. Shouldn't this be a swap for people only willing to participate for the length of the project? I mean otherwise we're buying a notebook, writing in it once and mailing it off to someone everytime. Maybe I'm not reading it properly :(

AshleyShea 09/ 7/2008 #

You don't have to buy a notebook. You will make your entry on any size paper you want. The paper should be loose paper, or you could tear it from a notepad. It's just the one entry you will be sending on one or more sheets of paper, not a notebook or journal.

Does that help?

krstawrdtravels 09/ 8/2008 #

Yes, thanks :)

PS: This is going to be a great swap :)

I've mailed my entry to my partner. I'll post it on the group blog in a few days when it's had a chance to arrive.

If you decide you want to post to the group blog, let me know and I'll send you an invitation. Even if you choose not to post your entry there, you can visit and make comments without being "invited". Have fun!
