Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. -Joseph Addison For this swap, you will send your partner a letter or note card with a list of your five favorite books with a description of your favorite character from each one (or thought provoking idea if it's non-fiction), and the name and author of the book you are currently reading. Include a bookmark (sender's choice) with your letter or card, no homemade or advertising bookmarks please. Cards may be handmade. You can start prepping this swap before partners are assigned. We shouldn't teach great books; we should teach a love of reading. -B. F. Skinner This is a great chance to get some ideas for your summer reading list or maybe just hear what others love about a book you might have been on the fence about. The worst thing about new books is that they keep us from reading the old ones. -John Wooden This international swap is open to newbies and those with low ratings. I've found that fellow bookworms usually come through when it comes to a love of literature. But if a flake appears in our midst, I will angel after contact has been made and appropriate feedback has been left. Reading and life are not separate but symbiotic. And for this serious task of imaginative discovery and self-discovery, there is and remains one perfect symbol: the printed book. -Julian Barnes |
