Description: | |
Runes are mysterious symbols used by many cultures for communication, and perhaps even more so, for fortune telling. The petroglyphs left by prehistoric Native Americans in many places in my home state of New Mexico have meanings - but does anyone know for sure their language? Egyptian hieroglyphs, too, fall into this category of "picture writing". And, of course, many of us are familiar with the Norse runes often carved on stones and used for scrying, good luck pieces, or foretelling. Inchies, of course, are 1" by 1" bits of art - a lot of creativity packed into a very small bit of space. The first time I saw them, they immediately reminded me of runestones. Create your own set of six rune inchies for your partner. If you are feeling really creative, be sure to earn a heart by enclosing a set of notes giving the meanings of each rune, and even suggested methods of reading them! (Such as; toss on a table and read the ones that land face up for the answer to your question). Make up your own, or use historical runes, petroglyphs, hieroglyphs, etc for inspiration. Be serious, or wise, or funny, whatever you like. Since these are intended to be similar to rune stones, please use at least card stock weight paper, if not something thicker and heavier. I would really love to see what everyone comes up with - so if I set up a Flickr group for this swap - would you share? Rating of at least 4 and no recent flakes. Newbies welcome. International. I'm going to set this up with a good long run time to miss all the holidays - and give you time to think... OUR FLICKR GROUP: http://www.flickr.com/groups/runeinchies/ |
