Description:

Hello fellow ephemera lovers!

I'm addicted to handmade envelopes and can't look at anything flat without imagining what a cool envie it would make! This is similar to a swap I hosted way back in 2012 in another group.

For this swap, we will make envelopes out of ephemera that wasn't intended to be an envelope in the first place. The only thing you cannot use to make your envies is scrapbook paper (because that's too obvious), and actual paper that was meant to be written on (like notebook paper, stationery, printer paper, etc.)

We'll make 3 envelopes for each of our 2 partners. The envies must be made by 3 different pieces of ephemera. So you can make all 3 envelopes from maps, but they must be 3 different maps. They can be all the same size or all different size/style, but I'm sure this will depend on the size of the items you make the envies from. All 3 envelopes must be mailable-sized, so no smaller than 3x5.

Examples of what you can use:

book pages - foreign, vintage, children's, textbooks

printed shopping bags

maps - nat'l geographic, atlas, road maps, tourist maps

vintage sewing pattern envelopes

food boxes (thin enough to be creased & folded)

neat wrapping paper

magazine covers or pages

food to-go menus

travel brouchures

a former envelope - like a business envelope (with the pattern inside) turned inside-out to make a different envelope or a priority or airmail envelope, also turned inside-out and re-purposed into another, different envelope

vintage ledger paper or sales slips

Please cut & seal the edges neatly with glue or double-sided tape; no tape on the outside.

Feel free to post ideas below that I haven't listed. You may also sew any of the above pieces together to make an envelope. Very impressive if you've got those skills!

In a nutshell:

~3 envelopes to each of 2 partners, for a total of 6~

~no scrapbook, writing or printer paper~

~made from 3 different pieces of ephemera~

~must be mailable-sized~

~no tape on the outside~

~vintage ephemera is allowed (and preferred by some!)~

Usual group rules apply; I'll check profiles before assigning partners. I'm giving extra time to sign up while we build up the group :) PM me with any questions!
