The faire is coming to town! Come one come all but don't ignore the call! Note: Please read over this swap carefully, it's not complicated I just like to explain everything with as much detail as I can, but make sure you read all the criteria before signing up. This is the first in what I hope will become a series of swaps based on the old traveling faires, gypsies, whatever names they were called by, they would set up tents just on the outskirts of town and sell their wares, read fortunes, play instruments and entertain! They would also sell things for the children, potions to cure aliments and so much more! Just a simple faire but something new and exciting nonetheless. Step 1: The tools So, this is a swap Morgan le Fay would love, because our first stop is the fortune telling tent! In this swap we are going to explore the tools that tell our fate for well or ill. Think of runes, ogham, tarot cards, tea leaves, palm reading, pendulums, oracles, scrying, bones, crystal/stone gems and crystal balls. You will send your partner 1 of the fortune telling methods listed above (if I have missed any please post below and if approved I will add them to the list on here). Please include instructions on how to begin/read the methods you selected as not everyone is familiar with all ways of reading. Many of these items can be bought at local metaphysical shops and even some bookstores (I wouldn't recommend online but that's just my preference. I feel that it's important to feel the energy of whatever you're buying, it's good to get a feeling about a certain deck or set of runes for example, of course if that is your only and best way of purchasing it's not discouraged). For those of you who are amazing at making your own set of cards, runes, ogham, etc., feel free to do so (just please realise that not all of us are crafty). I know many of you are fantastic artists and work with clay and natural elements, that's a gift! Please use it if you wish, just make it nice. Step 2: The look Please send your partner something to decorate their tent/space! Maybe something to lay down on the table, like a small tablecloth, or charm box, maybe there is a book of spells lying to the side, anything that could add to the atmosphere, think of walking into Morgan's tent she has set up at this local faire just outside Camelot...what might you find inside? Again these items may be purchased or handmade. Step 3: The scent The scent of a fortune telling tent is almost as important as the look and feel as certain aromas can help induce a state of relaxation and aid us in tapping into the divine. Please include for your partner some type of essential oil they can burn, incense sticks or cones, maybe they burn sweet herbs like sage. I will let people list preferences below for this as some scents I realise may cause migraines or are just not appealing to some. (If you are allergic to most scents and it's difficult for you to burn any of these please make note of this below as well and your partner can substitute either another small item for your decor or something to drink for those cold fair evenings like herbal teas or coffee). The End: In closing I realise this may be more of an expensive swap, the first item being the most expensive, but you can still find tarot decks for around $15 if you look but I would say keep it between $20-$30 total. (If you make your own tarot decks or runes then this could be more affordable for you, it's possible to make your own loose incense as well). Of course if you wish do more it's never a bad thing. Well, I hope this sounds fun! Believe me it is! I know it may seem like a lot to read over but I like to be thorough and fair. I really want us all to receive a package that we could basically just open up and "set up shop" almost immediately! Any extras are nice but please focus on the main swap first and foremost. Some extras that may be nice to send along should you wish could be a bag for tarot cards, used books in good condition explaining more about selected method or maybe a small pendant or something for your fortune teller to wear herself, the possiblities are endless! So let's all do our best and make Morgan proud! This is a group swap so everyone should be trustworthy but I will say this now - if you flake on a group swap you will be dropped from the group. Also, if you are going to be late even by a day please pm your partner to let them know it's just common courtesy. I understand life happens. Have fun with this and happy fortune telling!!! |
