Since 1942, BBC Radio has been presenting a programme called Desert Island Discs. Desert Island Discs Each week a 'castaway' is interviewed. They need to list eight pieces of music which have memories for them that they would take to a desert island if they were shipwrecked. At the end of the programme, they are also given the Bible (or another religious book) and the complete works of Shakespeare to take to their imaginary desert island. They then choose one more book to take, and a luxury item (which can't be anything living). Finally, they have to say which of the eight musical tracks they would save if they could only save one. I thought this might make a fun swap! So: (1) Choose eight pieces of music to take to your desert island. Tell your partners why you have chosen each one. Is that one you remember your grandmother singing? Is it the song you danced to at your wedding? Is it a song you sang on stage? Is it just one of your favourite tunes and the one you would want to listen to over and over on your desert island? (2) Decide what book you want to take to the desert island along with a religious text (Bible, Koran, Bhavagad Gita, etc.) and Shakespeare. (3) What luxury item do you want? It can't be anything living, but it can be something like a lifetime supply of paper or a piano or a flashing disco floor or a lifetime supply of chocolate bars or anything you want. (4) If seven of the music tracks were destroyed in the shipwreck, which is the one you want to save? Now email your partners with the answers to those questions. With the music tracks, please provide a link so that your partners can enjoy listening. Don't forget to rate your partners promptly. Rating is an important part of swapping! |
