Let's make a handmade collaged postcard featuring Dada poetry! If you've never heard of it, check out this link for an overview on Dada poetry. Towards the bottom of the site there are explanations of some different ways to create. For this swap we will be using the "Cut-Up Method" which involves taking something like a newspaper or magazine article, page from a book etc, cutting it up into individual words and/or small phrases then randomly placing them to form something new. In order to make it truly random I suggest putting your cut up words into a bag before selecting. It's okay if the words don't form sentences like you'd expect; that is the point! Material in a language other than English is welcome. Please consider including a translation of the text with the swap! Along with the poem add collage elements (no stickers please; washi tape or other embellishments are fine) to complete your artistic postcard. The concept is absurd and irrational so don't try too hard to make it "make sense" or be cohesive. Just have fun with it and embrace the randomness! Mail your postcard naked (ensuring everything is securely attached) or in a clear sleeve or envelope if preferred, but still address and write as if sent naked. Your written message can be about whatever you want as long as it's not just "happy swapping." The Usual Stuff: include swap name + username somewhere for ease in rating. Send on time by the deadline; if you will be late let both myself and your partner know as soon as you can. Please rate promptly and fairly when you receive your swap. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or if any issues with the swap arise! I plan to continue hosting these swaps as an ongoing series - thank you all for your interest! |
