Description:

This is a copy of a swap I took part in back in Julu 2008. I cannot ask the then coordinator Katiad if it is OK to run this one as she has not been on Swap-bot since October 2008.

Calling all penpals with imagination! Ever wanted to be someone else for a while, or receive a letter from an imaginary person? Love to write fiction? Have a lot of characters bouncing around in your head? This is the swap for you!

This is a ghost pals swap, where you take on the persona of a fictional character of your own imagination - perhaps a fairy in an enchanted forest, or a 16th century pirate, or an alien from another planet, or heck, even just someone with a more interesting life than you have! - and write a letter to your partner from their perspective!

You'll have one partner assigned to you, but you should end up with two imaginary penpals, since you'll send one letter, and receive one (from a different person) in return! This will probably require you to create two characters.

How it Works:

1) Partners assigned.

2) Create a character, and start writing a letter. Start the letter off with a vague salutation so your partner can reply back with a character of their own creation. For example: Dear Friend; Sir or Madam; Greetings! Do not (unless you are CERTAIN your partner won't mind) label your partner already with titles such as "lover" or "husband" or "daughter" or "Queen." Let them create a character to respond to you with; don't force them to write back as something they might rather not!

3) Send your letter off to your partner under his/her real name and address. Don't forget to enclose a note giving them a bit more background, your swap-bot name, and any ideas you might have!

4) Receive a letter from the person sending to you from an imaginary character you know nothing about.

5) Create a new character in response and write a letter back!

So, for example: I send off a letter from my first character, Lady Jasmine, a fairy princess from Knobby Tobby Land, to a distant cousin I know little about. Later, I get a letter from a cowboy gunslinger in the wild west writing home with news of his travels. I respond with a new character, Annie, a sassy southern belle who received his letter quite by mistake, but intends to give him a piece of her mind anyway.

;-) Get it? Let's play!

Feel free to list any genres you really don't care for, or a few ideas you have bouncing around in your head, or whatever!

I would like to think you will be able to keep writting to your 2 "new" friends for at least once a month.

Enjoy and have fun with this one :-)

It is nice to add a photo or too to the letter if that works for you :-)

I remember the original swap and considered joining it! Your description makes it sound a bit less intimidating somehow, or maybe I've just missed doing it for the past year and half. :o)

Hi ellie, most of the above is a cut and copy from the fist swap. I think the time must be right for you this time. Hugs :-)

I'm watching. I will plan on playing. Do we rate once we get the first letter or when we get the response?

AngelFaeryKathleen 03/27/2010 #

Hi AndreaJ, you will need to rate on the first letter. There is no obligation to continue with the letter exchange, it will just be fun to do so. This swap really just gets it off the ground. When I took part in the original swap I did not get a reply back from my letter and that was rather a disappointment. I did reply to the letter I received and got and Email acknowledgement back saying I would get a reply but that did not eventuate. You do not have to replay but it would be great fun to keep it up for as long as you both continue to enjoy it. Hugs :-).

Fun.

On the watchlist for next month.

I love the idea of getting to create new characters and respond to the ones others create. What a great way to keep the creative juices flowing, and play around with a few characters floating about in my head!

I so love this idea I showed the last writing experience to a few and so this will further stretch my imagination. I now need to decide which creature or person in my imagination I will use I just can't wait. So do I have to write as a human or can it be a creature from fantasy complaining how people treat me? TY this is cool idea Smiles Col

AngelFaeryKathleen 04/ 1/2010 #

Hi craftycol, you can write as whoever or whatever you please. Just go where the writting muse takes you, hugs :-)

AngelFaeryKathleen 04/ 1/2010 #

I'm just so ready, mine is all written, just went with the muse when I was on the computer the other night :-)

Just one question. Is there any limits on the lengh as I don't see what size it has to be.

AngelFaeryKathleen 04/10/2010 #

Hi craftycol, it can be as long as you feel happy with, remember we hope to keep this going for more than one letter, hugs :-)

ShyRaven 04/14/2010 #

Fab idea, I'm excited!

AngelFaeryKathleen 04/17/2010 #

Hi ShyRaven, so am I, I just want to get it started, hugs :-)

AngelFaeryKathleen 04/26/2010 #

Hi all,

I have not said a lenth as font size, line spaceing and including pictures can effect all that. Just go where the muse takes you. huigs :-D
