Description:
For this swap you will be making 2 ATC's for your partner with at least one embellishment made using the paper casting technique. I have left a fairly long time until due date to allow for trial and error and drying To make a paper cast embellishment you need: rubber stamp tissue paper (napkins or toilet tissue) 50/50 water and PVA glue mix Optional inks, paints polymer clay There are 2 methods for this. Either stamp into some conditioned polymer clay (a nice deep impression) and bake prior to making cast or cast directly onto the rubber stamp. Either using clay or direct to stamp, the process is the same. Place a sheet of tissue on stamp or mould and coat with pva/ water mix, press down firmly (making sure you get into att the details) Repeat with about 8-10 sheets (if you feel it needs more or less go with it) Use some kitchen towel wadded up to press down firmly and mop up any excess glue/water mix Leave to dry overnight at least. Remove from mould/stamp and colour as desired This link may make things clearer Ok that is clear as mud right? Hi, can you explain this part a bit more please? Do we cut out the shapes we made on the tisue 8-10 times and glue each of the images separately onto the card or do we put all the images on top of each other and stick the stack on the card? This sounds fun I'd like to do it.

Will this ruin your rubber stamps or will the glue dry them out? I can't do the polyclay route as I only have a working stove stop since my oven went out a couple of months agao and we are still saving for a new one.

Oh can you use actual tissue paper the kind you put in gift bags?

It doesn't ruin the stamps as far as I have found, PVA glue is easy removed (not sure if it's called that in USA).

I have not tried it with gift tissue paper (yet) I do know it works well with facial tissues and toilet tissue as well as napkins. The bonus of napkins is you can use patterns and colours from them in the cast.

One other thing to note is deep etched and bold images work best with both ways.

The directions at that link specify gift tissue paper. I'm trying to figure out if I have anything I can use for the mold...

I used tissues and they turned out fine. The glue I used was Elmers white school glue and just washed the stamp with soap and water when I was done. It didn't damage the stamp at all. I'm going to buy some tissue paper and see how that works. The supplies are cheap so I don't mind trying a lot of different things to see which works best :)

The only reason I say not gift tissue is that seems to have a finish on it but then I have used it in paper mache and this is much the same :)

Camelsamba if you don't have stamps I would say any interesting textured item may work for this

Elmers sounds like the US equivalent of PVA glue

I used white gift tissue paper for one of mine. It is a bit of a "hard paper" so you need a bold stamp and lots of patience to get any detail. But the final result was nice. I brushed it with pearl powders and the result was a very subtle color (because the final surface seemed extremely non-porous).

I think I will do the second one with bathroom tissues. I think it will be softer and easier to work with. It should have a rougher more porous texture when finished which will accept color in a different manner.
