Description:

I'll go out on a limb here and guess that, come Nov. 1st, most of us in this group do not shunt the skull garland and cat-head candles to the attic, tear the giant spiders, ghosts, and bats from our trees or ceilings, stop watching horror films, wear less black, or cease eating candy. But of course the best time to buy Halloween-y stuff is IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE HOLIDAY, when it all goes ON SALE! I've already got some stores on my hit-list, don't you?

So, for this swap, you will sending a deeply-discounted package of Halloween edibles, media, and/or accoutrements, worth $10-12 before shipping, to one partner. Yes, $10-12 is what you should spend! That should buy you either quite a bit (scientists call this unit of measurement a "shitload") of little trinkets and tidbits, or a couple relatively nice things. Candy, candles, bouncing eyeballs, wind-up rats, cookie cutters and cupcake toppers, terrifying tableware, seasonal stickers, gothy jewelry, makeup, masks, scary movies... there are so many ways to follow through on this! I've even seen Halloween-themed pasta this year.

I'd rather this not be purely senders' choice, though we should keep in mind we'll all be subject to what's left in the stores when we hit 'em up; participants, please post a quick comment broadly stating what you'd prefer (ie, "I'd prefer food and decor to makeup and movies") and if there are things you really don't want/can't have (ie, "please do not send anything to do with sexual violence or torture" or "cinnamon gives me hives").

So, at least check the comments and take a quick look at your partner's profile before buying/sending stuff... try to find appropriate items... and everyone, be reasonable.

If you want to throw in a couple little handmade extras, more power to you, but this should not throw off what you buy - let's keep it equitable! Any questions, please post below or PM me - I'll edit the description if need be. This is US only, sorry - if anyone wants to do an international version, go for it.

You guys are so lucky living in the USA, I went to both my 'local' craft shops in Sep & Oct and there was not one halloween item to be found - they just don't get it! I had to buy my stuff online from the US and have it shipped over - wish the UK would get into Halloween the same way you guys do! Hope you have a great swap!

Maybe sales are down this year, or everyone's gung-ho about cycling in all their Christmas crappe, but I'm already seeing Halloween items getting dumped (JoAnn Fabrics, Cost Plus). Feel free to start shoppin' early!

I REALLY dislike realistic violence/"torture porn" stuff, and licorice/anise flavors. Prefer supernatural or critter (cats/bats/owls/ravens/vermin) themes, toys, cooking supplies, food.

Just send me what YOU like. I think that's reasonable. Halloween stuff is already marked down in my area, too. I think the so called recession has retailers banking on Christmas and giving Halloween short shrift...boo to that!
