I am starting a series of Tim Holtz inspired technique swaps. While I appreciate his urban/grunge/vintage artwork, my style tends to lean more towards nature/clean/modern designs. But, I still love Tim Holtz products -- they are excellent for all types and styles of artwork! With that in mind, my swaps, at least for now, will concentrate on technique instead of style. I was lucky enough to take a class with Tim last spring at the Mega Meet in Novi, MI. I made three tags. I will use this tags as inspiration for the first three technique swaps. You will be making one ATC for each of two partners (2 ATCs total). ATCs are 2.5 x 3.5" in size. Dauber Resist: Step 1: Pick a stamp image to use. Lightly and evenly cover your stamp with your chosen color of dauber paint. Stamp your image on your background paper. Let dry thoroughly (while your image is drying, wash the paint off of your stamp. Once dry it is hard to get out of the nooks and crannies). Step 2: Color your paper and image with 2-3 shades of distress ink. Step 3: With a slightly damp paper towel or sponge, lightly wipe the distress ink off the surface of the stamped design. The dauber paint will "resist" the distress ink and pop out of the background color. Step 4: Embellish your ATC or tag. Examples: My class tag shows a swirl resist in the upper left corner My most recent ATC uses this technique The turquoise swirl in the background is mostly covered up though. This technique works great for skulls and moons! Upper right and lower right corner inchies Have fun and feel free to PM me with an questions or concerns. |
