Bibliophile and cineaste. :) And it seems like I'm a deltiologist now. :D
I also like reading other people's letters. :D (I read them on http://www.lettersofnote.com).
And I'm writing again! Do you like culture-clash type romantic comedies? Well, check it out here: http://www.wattpad.com/user/paperstreetpress
Recently I've been listening to The Blood Arm. I like world music, and French musicians/singers e.g. Francoise Hardy. I also like Mott the Hoople, the Velvet Underground, Nico, the Beatles (I grew up listening to them). Also, The Kinks, Belle & Sebastian, Portishead, Hooverphonic, Uffie.
Calvin and Hobbes books, Madeline, Raymond Carver short stories, Acquainted with the Night by Lynne Sharon Schwartz, Perfume by Patrick Suskind, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami, Howards End by E.M.Forster, The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Atonement by Ian McEwan, Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, Emily of New Moon by L.M. Montgomery, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis, Jhumpa Lahiri's The Interpreter of Maladies, Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things, Enid Blyton fairy-tale books (the illustrated ones), fairy tales of your country
I like watching films, interior design, specifically Scandinavian design. I like to mix the modern with old world stuff, and find new uses for everyday objects.
I like traveling, visiting museums, shopping, collecting objects esp. the arts/crafts of the country I'm visiting.
I like making my own envelopes, so paper with interesting patterns or anything related to the themes I like (see below in "Likes and Dislikes") will be very useful to me. :)
And yes, I like snail mail a lot; I also like sending and (of course, receiving) surprises in the mail. I've also had a renewed interest in postcrossing. It seems I write more postcards now than letters...
Do check out my profile there for postcard swaps to get an idea re: my preferences: http://www.postcrossing.com/user/smurfrevolt
At the moment, my favorite movie is Midnight in Paris. I loved all the cameos of the famous writers and artists. :)
I love the TV adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Going Postal (because it is about snail mail! I love Moist von Lipwig!)
I also love: Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums (well, let's just say everything Wes Anderson directed), Wong Kar-Wai's Chungking Express and In the Mood for Love, Run Lola Run, The Science of Sleep, Funny Haha (and other mumblecore films), Roman Holiday (I'm a Classic Hollywood film buff; I love Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn), Fight Club, Ghost World, Behind the Sun (a Brazilian film), The Virgin Suicides, French New Wave films (I love Alain Delon and Jean-Pierre Leaud, esp. in Masculin, Feminin), Ensemble C'est Tout, La Reine Margot
period dramas (I especially loved Wives and Daughters, Cranford and Downton Abbey)
Doctor Who
The Borgias
Game of Thrones
Extras
Spaced
Wonderfalls
The Simpsons
Flight of the Conchords
Daria (MTV animation)
Dead Like Me
Felicity
That 70's Show
Poirot
quality over quantity. I prefer to receive quality stuff, even if it's just one thing. I'm trying to de-clutter.
paper! (letter sets and notecards or correspondence cards, notepads and notebooks)
rubber stamps (Themes I like for stationery --> French-themed, vintage, botanical illustrations, teacups, books, libraries, mail-related, art nouveau, anything related to the time periods I like :D )
I like ethnic scarves with colorful, unique patterns and textiles of a particular country (the long ones). I have a collection going and as of now I have scarves from Thailand, India, Cambodia and Vietnam. :) I love anything Oriental, Asian, Bohemian. :D I'm the eclectic, artsy type when it comes to fashion, but at the same time, I prefer classy designs, so no skulls, hearts, stars, animal print, etc. Floral's OK with me as long as it looks vintage (not too large prints please). I guess what I mean by vintage-looking is if it can be used in a period film or a Jane Austen adaptation. :-) Or just send me a scarf of your country's native fabric/dress/national costume (even if it's old and used). I would love it very, very much! :D
I will appreciate anything cultural from your country you'd like to share with me, maybe cultural artifacts, tiny crafts or souvenir-type things which represent your culture.
I like PCs with pictures of paintings on them (e.g. especially paintings of women in mythology, or period costumes, same goes for bookmarks. If it features a painting or something, I'd love it). Also, I prefer if postcards are written, sent naked with beautiful stamps. It just isn't the same without stamps. :D
I'm interested in trying food/snacks from your country which we don't have. I also like chocolate especially kinds which are only sold in your country, but it might melt in the mail, so wrap it in plastic or something. :D
I don't really wear jewelry that much, but if I did, I'd wear bracelets, or brooches/pins. I would like anything with a charm related to snail mail, or anything vintage. :D
If sending postcards in a parcel swap, that is cool, because I can use them for postcrossing. But please no touristy views or animals because I can't resend them if I haven't ever been there. :)
anything related to my Likes and my Favorites
Cute's OK with me too, but we might have different ideas of what cute is... I think Edward Gorey's illustrations are cute, for example. But, I don't really like Sanrio cute, if you know what I mean. :) I like some illustrators: Alain Gree, Carl Larsson, Herge, Fiep Westendorp. :D
pet hair in the swaps you send to me (sorry, I'm allergic...)
smell of smoke, and other unpleasant odors
anything too cute, as in Hello Kitty (Sanrio, San-X) but I find Korean stationery OK, even if it's cute it's very cool :) (just no animals, teddy bears, etc. please)
cutesy animal cartoons like bears and puppies and kittens (animals)...but then Totoro (from My Neighbor Totoro) is sort of an animal, isn't he? :) I also don't like insects and that includes butterflies.
commercialized characters, like Snoopy or Winnie the Pooh, or anything Disney (I'm already surrounded by this stuff :-/ I do make an exception for The Simpsons...I just love them all! :)
Unfortunately, I am not overly fond of PC's with the following themes: flowers, domesticated animals like dogs and cats (pets), babies, those multi-view postcards where you can hardly see the pictures (they're rather small)...
I'm also not very "crafty," and I don't make scrapbooks, or sew, or anything like that. So, I'd rather not receive any craft materials, except rubber stamps (see above for the kinds I like). I'm also not very religious...so don't send me religious stuff or cards with Bible verses. Thank you! :)
I really like art on postcards, and any old-fashioned and charming vintage illustrations. :)
Some art style/artists and topics I like: Tamara de Lempicka, Erte, George Barbier, Balthus, Pre-Raphaelite, Art Nouveau, Edward Penfield, Jack Vettriano, Wayne Thiebaud
Fairy Tale Illustrations by Warwick Goble, Edmund Dulac, etc. I also love Russian fairy tales/folk tales, actually, all European fairy tales and the different versions).
Tintin, the comic book covers, Smurfs
Marie Antoinette, the roaring 20's and flappers, Gibson Girls, Edwardian ladies with huge, elaborate hats :)
Edwardian and Victorian era, Renaissance
Women reading, women with umbrellas/parasols
