My name is Juliette, I’m 30 years old, and I live in Belgium with my husband and our two cats. I’m a discrete and quite nerdy girl, who enjoys writing, reading and crafting with a nice cup of tea (or coffee !).
I’m a philosophy teacher for children in primary school (which has been a thing in Belgium for the last three years). Working with children can be exhausting at times, but also very challenging (in a good way) : I always have to find new ways to make my class interesting and appealing.
I have always been a stationary addict, collecting way too many notebooks, postcards and Washi tapes for my own good. Discovering the bullet journal system three years ago was a revelation for me : I finally managed to overcome my blank page syndrome, and started to use all the pretty paper goods I gathered over the years.
But now, I want more. Rather than keeping all my creativity locked in a personal journal, I want to share, I want to create for someone else, to discover new aesthetics and techniques, . That’s why I’d love to jump into the wonderful (yet a bit overwhelming) world of mail art, snail mail and swaps.
I’m a recycler : I like to gather bits and scraps from magazines, art exhibition flyers, newspapers, cardboard packagings, ephemera, free postcards... anything that catches my eyes and I can stick in my journal.
I love creating things with paper ! I like to decorate my envelopes and my writing paper, and I really have enjoyed making zines lately. Other than that, I dabble in drawing, painting and lettering, without much success, but I still enjoy it !
A way too long list of things I love ! It is meant to help my partners getting to know me a bit better, finding ideas for a profile-related swap, or simply picking a conversation starter for a pen pal letter. By no means is this a shopping list.
Those are the colours I love and frequently use in my personal projects. It doesn’t mean that I hate any other colours (except for those on my dislike list), so feel free to show me what colours YOU love ! * Neutral colours - all greys, all whites, all tans, dull colours, pastels * Dark colours - blacks, navy, indigo, peacock * Bright colours - gold, teal, peach, butterscotch, fern * Fluo colours - just a hint from times to times
Ah ! Postcards... I don’t collect them, but I can’t resist a beautiful postcard. I usually use them to decorate my home (I don’t frame them or anything fancy... I just pin them on the wall :)
My favourite themes are : * Mid Century illustrations * Japanese art * Quirky and cute * Typography * Art Deco patterns * Contemporary Art * Vintage science fiction * Vintage advertisements * Hand drawn style illustrations * Space * Weird or inappropriate * Linocut illustrations
I love reading ! My favourite genre is science fiction, but I also love 19th century classics, horror, fantasy and non-fiction (philosophy, sociology, history, political sciences,...).
I’m currently challenging myself to read every science-fiction book mentioned in « How great science fiction works » by Gary K. Wolfe (The Great Courses). It won’t happen over night, as there are about 100 titles listed, but it has been a lot of fun so far !
A few of my favourite authors : Isaac Asimov, Jane Austen, Ray Bradbury, Frank Herbert, H.P.Lovecraft, G.R.R. Martin, William Thackeray, Robert Silverberg, Daniel Keyes, Emily Brontë, Philipp Pullman,...
