My name is Teena Brown and I am a happily married, mother of six, ages 22-35, all home-birthed and home-schooled, and the grandmother of 5 wonderful grandsons. I love my job as a librarian in the small town where I live. Back on swap-bot after several years hiatus spent finishing my degree.
My interests include reading, writing, various crafts, movies, family, journaling, TV, art, music, eating out, travel, swimming, snail mail, postcards, thrift stores, yard sales, singing, laughing, sleeping.
Current Favorite Author: Charles Eisenstein - changing how I see the world!
His website
Other Writers: Jane Austen, Orson Scott Card, Charles Dickens, Neil Gaiman, Ursula K. LeGuin, Douglas Adams
Poets: e.e. cummings, T.S. Eliot, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Lewis Carrol
Love stories with supernatural elements: time travel, psychic powers, aliens. Not formulaic, overly crude or sentimental. Love me some classics, teen fiction, humor, anything quirky, well-written, smart, informative. Reading a lot of non-fiction lately on subjects such as philosophy, activism, meditation, spirituality and have recently noticed that a lot of what I read is designated as "alternative." Hmmm....
Friend me on Goodreads to see what I'm reading now! Always appreciate recommendations.
Movies I Can Watch Over and Over: Groundhog Day, Galaxy Quest, Hairspray, Pride and Prejudice, I Capture The Castle, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
Love watching movies with big special effects in the theater. I usually wait until the others come out on DVD. I'm also a big talker during movies, especially when it's bad and I'm forced to make fun of it!
Some favorites in the past: American Horror Story, How To Get Away With Murder, Supernatural, Smallville, Arrested Development, Project Runway, Torchwood, Firefly, So You Think You Can Dance, Dexter, Modern Family, Glee, Being Human, Misfits and more. I'm kinda addicted to trashy TV. It's my dirty little secret.
Updated List: The Umbrella Academy, Travelers, The Magicians, Tidying Up (All on Netflix...)
Quilting, sewing, beading, embroidery, art journals, altered clothing, recycling, crochet, knitting, (but only socks!)
Love fabric, anything that sparkles, yarn and thread and all kinds of paper and art supplies.
Have made at least a dozen quilts, scores of afghans, baby blankets, doilies, boxes full of beaded jewelry, pillowcases, sweaters, fabric postcards, bags, skirts, Halloween costumes, curtains, ornaments, patched jeans, hand-bound journals and who knows what I'm forgetting.
Love batiks, seed beads, vintage buttons, scraps of ribbon and lace, decorative papers esp. marbled and rice, craft books and magazines, crocheted doily patterns, old maps, embroideries, novelty yarn, sock yarn, fat quarters, Sharpies, fountain pens, long letters, any recycled thing that could possibly be made into jewelry, altered art, humor, poetry, lip gloss, collage images, homemade envelopes and journals, postcards featuring moons, castles or art, anything fun, creative, unusual, thought provoking.
CURRENT FAVORITES: Anything with a books, literature, or librarian theme. Also, washi tape, planner goodies, weird and quirky stickers, sticky notes, sock yarn, poetry, odd postcards, stationary, number and logic puzzles, decorated envelopes with fun stamps.
REALLY DON'T LIKE plastic beads, cartoon characters, Disney, foam stickers, anything sports related, cowboys/southwest themed or "inspirational".
