01/13/10 I'm slowing down on swaps right now and taking a little break. I'm seriously cracking down on my dissertation: Ph.D. or bust! :)
I'm an artist, musician, and scholar of English literature-- currently working on my dissertation on the Irish poet W.B. Yeats.
I love all things creative!
Don't look at my Flickr if you're expecting a swap from me and want to be surprised! Otherwise, I'd love for you to take a look and leave a comment or two!
Favorite music (in no particular order): Muse, U2, The Cure, Rush, 65daysofstatic, Pure Reason Revolution, Celldweller, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Porcupine Tree, The Missing, Weezer, NIN, Moby, Beck, The Crystal Method, Cake, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Seal, Madonna, She Wants Revenge, VAST, Tori Amos, White Zombie/Rob Zombie... Lots of alt/goth/techno/industrial/electronica/progressive/ambient and other stuff, too!
I have little to no time to read books purely for pleasure, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy what I read! Currently, all of my reading is focused on my dissertation topic: the poetry and plays of W.B. Yeats.
But, when I have time I also enjoy reading good fantasy and sci-fi such as Tolkien, Ursula Le Guin and Frank Herbert. Also love Vonnegut, Orwell, Huxley, Atwood... dystopian lit! Reading about quantum physics is also fun.
Scrapbooking, fashion design/sewing, painting (oils)
My scrapbooking style (like my own style) tends to be rather formal. I love papers with fancy, "old world" designs, or very modern, geometric stuff. As for colors, the DARKER, the better! I love papers that have textures or patterns (not solid), and are mostly black or very close to it. Dark jewel tones are great, too. And green! Any shade of green!
I like stamps, stickers, and rub-ons with scrolled patterns, fleur de lys, geometric, paisley, abstract or Celtic designs.
I haven't experimented with brads, buttons, or chipboard, yet, but I'm willing to try!
If you send me ANYTHING that's Celtic-traditional, you can be assured of a heart! All my scrapbooking is of my trips to Ireland!
(That being said, no leprechauns, please!)
I especially love artistic postcards, whether painting, drawing, sculpture, or beautiful photography and architecture. Modern art/abstraction, Art Nouveau, or ancient/classical art are my favorite styles. Funny/quirky/strange postcards are great, too; I love sci-fi and fantasy and dark, gothic, or spooky themes or designs.
My favorite colors are violet and green; I love deep jewel tones. I like pastels if they are combined with darker colors. I love chocolate brown and aqua together.
My favorite animals are cats and horses, but I love all animals (except for some of the six-legged ones...).
I like any type of postcard that is artistic or beautiful, whether it's store-bought, free/advertisement, hand made, or recycled!
I prefer postcards that are sent naked (no envie) and with a little note telling me something about yourself, the card, why you chose it, etc. If you can't think of anything to write, quote some poetry at me! :)
If I'm in a "send x postcards in an envie swap," I prefer not to receive standard tourist postcards with photos of places.
I also trade postcards on Postcrossing. I'm Amymc there, too
Lots of fantasy and sci-fi: LoTR, The Matrix, Serenity, Brazil, The Princess Bride, Underworld, Pan's Labyrinth, Fight Club, Spirited Away... Also, foreign and indy films... anything by Mike Leigh, David Lynch...
Firefly, BSG, Dr. Who, Torchwood, Dollhouse, Carnivale, Red Dwarf, Dead Like Me, Dexter, Buffy, X-files, Lost...
Traditional Irish/Celtic things, especially Celtic crosses
Hello Kitty (but HK might be the only cutesy thing I like!)
Sci-fi/fantasy
Dark/Gothic/Steampunk/Renaissance
Edward Gorey
Gaming: D&D, Magic, Arkham Horror, Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, Agricola, Portal...
Modern art/abstraction
Art Deco and Art Nouveau
Pre-Raphaelite art
Coffee!!!
Cats, horses, birds, reptiles, dragonflies (most animals that aren't the six-legged kind)
Purple/violet, green, jewel tones, aqua and chocolate together
I would love to have a small sample of embossing powder to try out!
I'd also love some swap cards with my name, etc... to send out with my swaps.
I consider everything I receive here a gift, and "it's the thought that counts!" However, to help guide your thoughts, here are a few things I'm not fond of.
Color dislikes: pastels (unless combined with black or neutrals in a contemporary design), neon colors, peach
Music dislikes: '80s hair metal, country, rap, bluegrass, American folk music
Style dislikes: country, cutesy, folksy, Americana
Other: map postcards (unless of Ireland) * food or candy * dotees * recipe cards * Disney (I live "in the shadow of the Mouse"---an hour from Disney World. If I ever decide I want something Disney, I can get it myself!) * Preachy religious items (I like religious imagery from many cultures and religions, but am not interested in receiving Bible verses or materials meant for proselytizing.)

Thank you so much for the RAK-package I got today. Life is quite tough these days, we had a fire in the kitchen just before christmas, making us homeless and sending me to the hospital. Thanks for making this day a bit brighter, I really need that now =)
Hi :)
Today, after getting no mail for about a month, I finally got one postcard, and it was yours, the Odin one. It's very beautiful, in a mysterious different way, just how I like 'em. It really made my day!
Being a Literature teacher must be awesome, but a hard work too. Grading 150 essays must take a very long time!
I hope we meet again. Best to you and your family! :)
P.S. HUGE kudos for a shared love of Dead Like Me and Edward Gorey.
I did forget Dil in The Crying Game! And it's always a good idea to have penis on your profile page. Thanks for the tip!
