UPDATE: Sept, 2019 I updated a few sections of my profile.
I have had 4 of my children get married in less than 2 years. We've been busy! I only have 4 sons left to get married. I told my sons after the most recent married, June 1, 2019, to please give me 2 years before the next one. Ha ha!
I am still a homeschooling mom of 10 children who lives on a 115 acre farm. This year, 2019, I have only 2 sons left to homeschool. It is so different homeschooling with just 2 after working with so many. New phases and changes. I tell my children when the last one graduates in about 4 years, I plan to go to daytime bible study and quilt classes. It will be such a bittersweet time when the last graduates. I have been doing this for over 25 years.
I read to my school aged children every school day-- I have been in education for 25 years...I love teaching history and science--however, lately I have been teaching so much algebra!
I love reading, writing, hiking, bird watching, doing bible study, and making my own soap and cleaning products etc. I just started learning about essential oils and I am studying up on them.
I love to travel when possible. I just got back from my second cruise this year, 2019. What a blessing! I got to climb the Mayan ruins and snorkel in Roatan. I was super excited to get 4 stamps on my passport. We are going on a girls' trip to Charleston, SC, in early Oct, 2019. Im so excited. We laugh so much on these trips. After that we will visit my daughter in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is such a fun place to visit.
I am a 4h leader for 20 years and we are quite involved with 4 H. We show animals at the fair and we go out to the PA Farm Show and my children compete in square dancing.
Giving back to the community is very important to me and our family. We are trying to do better in this area . 4H helps us to give back to the community and being involved in our church also helps us to reach out to make a difference!
One goal of mine is that when the children leave the nest and BEFORE that--I really feel a heart for disabled veterans and wanting to help those active in the military.. I have 2 sons in Civil Air Patrol and I want to volunteer more when they have events that reach out to veterans.
My son joined the army in 2018 and is in South Korea at this time. He loves being in the army, serving his country. He is a helicopter mechanic.
We are harvesting pumpkins for market. We have large pumpkins and small decorative pumpkins. We also have been busy harvesting cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, onions, and garlic. We had a really nice asparagus patch.
We sold our pigs at the fair in late August, 2019. My children love the fair. Their favorite time of year. I call it my Little House on the Prairie week. bc we have little running water, occasional electric, no cell reception etc. It's a fun, busy week full of shows, fair activities and making memories.
LIKES: I love fall and winter ALOT... In fact I get a little sad when late spring comes because I know it will get hot and humid and that is just not my kind of weather at all!!
I love do it yourself small projects such as laundry detergent, fabric softener, deodorant, skin care products, antibacterial ointments, antibacterial sprays etc.
I just saw a few posts for making rag rugs/ homemade totes and I hope to begin that this spring. I have also done several beginners quilts and I always say when my last child leaves I plan to get back into quilting classes (still a beginner)... I also like cross stitch.
I am a BIG planner user. I live by my planner--and just recently saw sites where people really decorate their planners (kind of in the Creative Memories tradition)--well my planner needs to be very functional and not very decorative- but I did find a few things I will incorporate. Like washi tape--a new thing for me---and using more stickers in my planner book.
I love hippos, owls, birds, and other things in nature. I really enjoy rocks and learning about geology.
I also like stamps and very loosely collect them (not an official collector)
I really enjoy weather---and learning about it and following weather. Rain Storms and snowstorms are my favorite weather events. I love learning about the stars and watching for meteors.
I enjoy Poldark, Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge, Call the Midwives, NCIS, Castle, Forensics, The Middle, When Calls the Heart, and Reign, Heartland.
BOOKS: A few authors I enjoy reading: Eugenia Price, Sharon Kay Penman, Ann Rice, Neta Jackson, Edward Rutherford, Patrick Taylor, Jennifer Chiavenni, Vince Flynn, Robin J Gunn, and David Baldacci.
.I love reading history books and books about true events such as the history of salt, history of the railroad, history of prohibition, history of ANYTHING! . A somewhat strange thing is I love reading books about the history of diseases and its impact on a community/culture/ etc.
I also read some true crime, and books on true weather events.
I am not much of a fluff book reader--no romance or 'beach' reads.
I absolutely love to purge and throw things away. I love challenging myself to walk into a room and tell myself, "get rid of 3 garbage bags from this room, closet, etc" I am leaning towards minimalism but not completely. I just like the idea of streamlining things in my house and getting rid of clutter. I occasionally watch a few you tube videos for motivation to get rid of more and more.
I love donuts!! but I limit myself to only 1 or 2 a month esp since my daughter got her masters as a registered dietician/nutritionist in public health, we have gotten rid of alot of the "good" stuff like donuts/brownies/cookies.... (sniff sniff)....
DISLIKES: hhmmm I am not sure what I don't like---I dont like summer heat at all!
I do not like flea markets or estate sales...
I love drinking tea and coffee---but I am not a plain tea fan---I love flavors of tea.
I love walking the beach (we visit my snow bird parents in FL) but I dont enjoy sitting in the sun
I like walking and hiking alot---but do not like to jog or run at all!!.
We love playing games but I dont like Monopoly at all.
MUSIC: I am not a big music person---I think mostly because with 10 children in the house I have enough noise going on that I do not put music on. However, I do enjoy listening to contemporary Christian music. I like Elvis . Oh and my 2 daughters took me to a Train concert this past June and we had a blast and I love their songs!!
MOVIES: Poldark! Its a Wonderful Life; The Money Pit, Gone with the Wind, North and South (British Version!!), Cheaper by the Dozen; Yours, Mine, and Ours; Braveheart; The Patriot; Last of the Mohicans; JANE AUSTEN movies.....DORIS DAY movies!!
Ok :) I think I have now expounded on my previous profile that seemed to be a little skimpy. I look forward to being involved with swap bot.
