About Me

Retired public school teacher. Taught music to K-3 kids. Now home with time to sew, quilt, read, nap, travel. I also volunteer "behind-the-scenes" at my church.

Husband and I have been married 34 years. Daughter lives about 6 hrs away with her husband and 2 dogs.

Music has always been a big part of my life. I also love photography--mostly of nature whether it's flowers or clouds or scenes.

I have a small business that is struggling to get off the ground, Tabitha Treasures. Handcrafted items.

Farmer's Wife

So far my favorite block is Addie.

I love any and all colors from brights to subtle. Most of the quilts I have made are bright colors.

I love stripes and plaids. Stripes in brights, plaids in dark/med.

Whenever I'm choosing fabric, I choose first by color then by SOFT! I've run across some beautiful fabrics but didn't buy because they didn't have the feel I like.

Favorite Crafts

I love to try my hand at different crafts. I have done projects with washi tape and necklaces with some of my photos and glass squares.

I began crocheting when my husband and I spent many hours at MD Anderson in Houston and make hats for the cancer patients there.

I have tried some classes on Craftsy.com and my latest crafts include things with zippers! I've always shied away from zippers because they were too complicated. Not anymore!

I currently am interested in hand-lettering and zentangle/zendoodle. I have done callligraphy before but would like to try some of the multi-font quotes.

I'm an amateur photographer and love to photograph things in nature and architecture. I've been doing photography for about 15 years, maybe more.

I guess my passion is quilting, more specifically, quilt piecing. Putting together all the shapes to create something beautiful is great therapy for me. I have enough patterns to last me the rest of my lifetime! But I still look for more. My long-term goal is to copy a couple of quilts that my great-grandmother made with vintage/reproduction fabrics and to make a 3D looking quilt to look like the mosaic floor in a cathedral. I'm really good at following instructions but sometimes I have to make my own set of instructions. Although I have helped my mother and grandmother hand-quilt a few quilts, most of the quilts I've made have been tied. I now have the boards for a frame so, if I can take time out from piecing, I'll get started on one. I've tried machine quilting but, unless it's a small quilt, I'm never satisfied with the look. And I refuse to spend a lot of money on the big machines that I have no room for.
