I am a 30-something year old child at heart. I am a bit of a packrat, but I have recently decided that I need to curb that impulse a little, and cut down on the clutter and keep myself a little more organized... could be that Hoarders marathon watched over the weekend....
I'm a crafter, and I love making things out polymer clay, beads, paper, and repurposed/recycled things. I've recently been trying to sew, with mixed results. I also love knitting with knitting looms.
In my spare time, I teach Zumba fitness classes! Best workout ever.
My favourite shows are Spaced, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Flight of the Conchords, The Office (UK and US), Extras, Modern Family, Parks and Recreation, Kids in the Hall, Lost, Castle, Big Bang Theory, The Walking Dead, Firefly, Party Down, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Newsradio, The Twilight Zone, and The Muppet Show.
I also love old cartoons. I have a ton of classic animation on dvd, and I spend a lot of time watching Teletoon Retro. My favourites are from the Fleischer Studios (Popeye, Betty Boop) Tex Avery cartoons (Droopy, Red, Wolf), Looney Tunes (particularly Bugs Bunny, Pepe Le Pew, Foghorn Leghorn, Daffy Duck), Woody Woodpecker, and the Van Bueren Studio.
I listen to a lot of indie singer songwriter types, as well as folk, blues, older rock and soul, and some new top 40. I love going to folk festivals.
My current favourites are Sarah Slean, Danny Michel, Dan Mangan, Serena Ryder, Little Miss Higgins, The Tragically Hip, The Mountain Goats, Fats Waller, and anything Motown.
I became a Zumba instuctor in January 2013, and lately I've found myself listening to zumba music more than anything else! If there are any ZIN members out there with recommendations for me, I'd love to hear from you!
Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, O Brother Where Art Thou, Jurassic Park, The Muppet Movie, Toy Story, The Incredibles, Night of the Living Dead, The Goonies, Rushmore, Office Space, A Mighty Wind
Anything by Margaret Atwood, but particularly The Handmaid's Tale; Anything by John Wyndham, particularly Chrysalids, and The Day of the Triffids; Anything by Kurt Vonnegut; Fall on Your Knees; Harry Potter series; Pride and Prejudice and Zombies; Their Eyes were watching God
I love postcards, especially ones with pictures of tacky tourist things and roadside attractions. Or ones with movie posters, vintage pictures, cartoon characters, muppets or pictures from favorite bands, movies or tv. But really, I'm happy with any and all postcards that arrive in my mailbox!
Craft supplies are always welcomed, particularly polymer clay, yarn (particularly chunky or funky yarn), interesting jewelry findings, and fabric scraps. No more paper scraps please... I have way too many as it is!
Anything Muppet related. Or Fraggle related. :)
I love little handmade plush or amigurumi toys. Especially monsters, robots, or characters from my favorite tv shows.
Rubber duckies! I recently redid my bathroom in a rubber duck theme, and I'm always on the lookout for cool duckies of all sizes. I also love the novelty ones.
I've discovered the joys of knitting looms. If you have a spare knitting loom, or knitting loom patterns, hanging around that you'd like to get rid of, message me for a private swap!
Tea! I love green tea, herbal teas. Fruity, mint, or ginger tend to be my favourites. I'm not as into black tea.
I'm pretty trusting, and I tend to assume things have been lost in the mail rather than that someone has flaked on me.
That being said, if I haven't received your item, and I don't get a response when I try to contact you, I can be reasonably sure that you are flaking, and I will rate you at a 1. I don't like having to do that, but I also don't like putting my heart into a swap and getting nothing in return.
I've been asked about my cartoon preferences for several swaps recently, so I've decided to add a new section.
I love items with my favorite cartoon characters, with a few exceptions. I don't like the recent trend of feminizing Tweety bird, and I am not a fan of classic cartoon characters decked out in "modern" clothing - ie hip hop, sports, rasta, etc.
Classic cartoons, dating back to when they played in movie theatres before the feature, are my favorites. Tex Avery and Chuck Jones stand up against the greatest directors of any film genre. I can watch Looney Tunes, and MGM cartoons all day.
I love black and white cartoons from pretty much any studio- Disney, Fleischer, Van Bueren, Warner Bros.
As for newer cartoons, I definitely prefer ones that skewer towards an adult audience, or at least write with adults in mind. I'm a fan of earlier Simpsons, The Critic, Futurama, Moral Orel, and South Park.
My favorite feature length cartoons are the Toy Story trilogy, The Incredibles, Iron Giant, The Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Triplets of Belleville, Persepolis.
