About Me

6/14/2025 I am home and wow there was a lot of swap mail for me!! I am working through ratings and plan to be caught up soon if you are waiting to see whether something has arrived. Thanks for your patience.

6/4/2025 I have had to travel unexpectedly due to family health issues so I will be away for the next 10 days or so. I will do my best to monitor any mail USPS tells me is arriving, but I may be rating late. I anticipate all swaps going out on time.

5/22/25: I have a bad feeling that I didn't put enough postage on a couple of swaps the other day because I tried doing math in my head - if yours is one, I really apologize and let me know so I can do something about it!

My threes These two ratings are from the same incident 7 years ago. I used to travel a lot for work for weeks at a time, with dates that were sometimes a moving target. I completed both swaps for the same partner before a trip and left them for the postman to pick up. My mistake. They were inside my mailbox when I returned home. I don't live in that city anymore, and due to the current Administration, I am currently not working, therefore not traveling for weeks or months to parts unknown. Anyway, it was frustrating, and as a result, I took a break that wasn't intended to last 7 years (except apparently for a few swaps in 2021) but I am back now.

Swapping notes

  • If I have not rated you, I either haven't received the swap or I am out of town. I will try to put notes here when I am away. My sense of time is a little fluid, and I won't rate down for a couple of days' discrepancy, because I probably didn't notice, but I track my swaps, and if it has been weeks with no communication, well...

  • I send all swaps. If you haven't received it, please contact me before rating down. I will resend.

About me Yes, totally neuro-spicy in case you were wondering.

Lately I've gotten some fantastic mail with multiple different postage stamps on it - I love this! If you have random stamps that need a home, put them on my envelope!

A new developing set of interests is tarot, witchcraft, conjure, voodoo, hoodoo, and rootwork. If you have exposure to or experience with any of these areas and can work them into any swap, feel free!

I am also an avid scuba diver and love anything ocean-related, especially sea life, though beaches and boats are also on the list.

See info at the bottom of my profile for outgoing WISHLISTS and TAGS.

I am a well-traveled professional in international health and I love to knit. You will never catch me without at least an emergency sock knitting project in my purse, and usually a shawl in my computer bag. I am from New England and have lived in the western US as well as the south, and other places around the world. Swapping is probably an excuse for me to further indulge my love of paper, stamps, stickers, postcards, and possibly to discover new loves.

Favorite Crafts

Lately I am doing more sketching/ painting/ doodling, trying out different media, both the background and the application.

Knitting - I knit socks, scarves, shawls, and sweaters. I love most types of wool and most any colors, including un-dyed, and anything involving silk! I stay away from man-made fibers and usually don't knit with cotton, though occasionally with hemp. Knitting is my one true love! My favorite things to knit are one-skein shawls or socks from tonal solids, and I love lace and texture.

Collage - I am out of the habit, but I did collage with wild abandon in my younger days, and have been recently inspired by @bluehairedmary showing me some of her ATCs.

Sewing - My ambitions run bigger than my ability to complete projects, but I have many small patchwork projects in mind, and may be able to use that inspiration for ATCs as well. I also occasionally sew garments I can actually wear.

Since joining Swap-bot, I discovered that I like making mini flip books, and I make tons of handmade envies.

Postcard likes

Postcards

I love unique postage stamps, so if you have 'em, use 'em!

  • black and white
  • textiles (e.g., fabric, quilt, textile art)
  • local or unusual art (like, not your museum faves seen on printed products everywhere)
  • risqué / burlesque / pinup
  • Vintage-style travel posters
  • Greetings from ...

Except for the above, not too into touristy PCs.

Coffee and tea!

I prefer coffee to tea, but I participate in tea swaps now and again. I like black tea, herbal (mint, lavender, lemongrass), berry, citrus, and hibiscus, don't like green tea as much though I just found one with lemongrass that I like, and do not like Earl Grey. But I love Lady Grey!

Favorite Books

CURRENT: ACOTAR series. My book tastes lately run the gamut: fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, science/culture/other readable non-fiction (like, help me as a lay person understand your complicated but super interesting topic!)

Yes Please

  • Tarot / oracle / voodoo / conjure / magick (but no witch hats please)
  • Handmade envies
  • Unique / colorful / vintage postage stamps
  • Patchwork
  • Washi with images (vs. geometrics or solid)
  • Collage
  • Knitting
  • Fashion, sewing, patterns
  • Saturated colors, jewel tones, neons
  • Ocean themes
  • Travel themes
  • Botanical imagery
  • Anatomical imagery
  • Watercolor look
  • Pen and ink drawings
  • Vintage travel poster images
  • Hawaii
  • Southwest (light on the kokopelli tho)
  • Art deco
  • Atomic era / mid-century
  • Woodblock / lino cut prints
  • African print and textiles
  • Vlisco / Uniwax / Woodin
  • Yarn (natural fiber) - prefer tonal, kettle-dyed, or solid to variegated; self-striping and speckled OK
  • Animals: turtles, sharks, cats, dragons, birds, ocean life, herons/egrets
  • Japanese paper (origami, stationery, PCs)

No thanks

  • At this point, I'm good on the small bits of scrap paper. I haven't been using them, and I generate them myself!
  • Vintage book pages and random "ephemera" like blank receipt pages or waitstaff order pad pages
  • Random memo pages and post-its
  • Stickers with words (unless it's clever)
  • Teas with spices, vanilla, or caramel (except chai)
  • Religious messaging
  • Kids stuff (Kawaii OK; Disney, I'll pass on it thanks)
  • Teacher reward stickers
  • Glitter
  • Brown / tan / beige / khaki / taupe
  • Platitudes and planner-related text
  • Pastels exclusively
  • Holiday imagery
  • Boho / shabby chic

Wish List

In the past, I've joined a few Profile-Based swaps, so here are some ideas!

  • Knitting: sock weight yarn in as much % wool as possible, kettle-dyed or tonal (though I appreciate a good speckle, neon is fine!). I use this type of yarn for socks and shawls.

  • Kitchen: I love swedish dishcloths, and I've noticed on Amazon that some people comment that some are made in Sweden and others in China. I'm not sure I care, but FYI. I love nautical, mid century modern, and sheep / wool / knitting themes.

  • Kawaii letter sets

  • Postalettes / fold-and-mail letters: I love vintage, boygirlparty (or similar), retro/mod, kawaii.

Comment: Hi Heather! I love, love, love your DIY postalette and may have to borrow how to do one next month! LOL! Yes, I will have one again if there is at least three of us in it! I have never made a zine but find them very interesting when I have received one and you sound so artsy - do you see the green of jealousy over here? LOL! I cannot draw a stick figure that looks good - sigh! Mary & I have been swapping a bunch lately and it has been tons of fun (pc swaps)! Hope you enjoy your visit to the local library! All the best! Hugs and Happy Swapping! ;)

Comment: WOW! What an incredibly thoughtful swap! It smelt heavenly when I opened it! Everything is so perfect. The flipbook was so fun! It was a little treasure hunt as I discovered each little surprise. The wax seals are so beautiful. I can't wait to use them! All the sticker and goodies are so fun. The incense and dried flowers smell so divine. The alter items are perfect. Thank you so much for putting together such a thoughtful and peaceful swap for me!

Comment: OMGeeeee Heather!!! I can’t believe the amazing handmade pocket/flip book you made me 🤗 I haven’t even looked through everything but I loved it as soon as I took it out of the envelope. I’m so, so happy you joined my swap and you surpassed my expectations! Your swap is in the top 10 I’ve ever received in 15+ years on SB 💜 Thank you so much. Wish I could give you more hearts!
Response: Haha, thank you! Yes I had a lot of fun with that one. Trust me I didn't want to let it go. Lesson is I need to do a flip book or two for myself. Those envies were from someone else in a prior swap, so it was fun to use things I have hoarded from SB XD. I just made a flip book for another swap (slightly less intense) but it is so fun.

Comment: Hi Heather, I loved this mouse postalette , so cute!! Where do you find older postalettes like this. I look on Etsy and E-bay and thrift stores, Are there other sites that have them too? Just curious. I always welcome a letter about cats!! :) I have been a cat lover all my life!! The most I have ever had in my small house was 4 at one time for a long time, 2 of them lived to be 17, one lived to be 13, she was diabetic and the other one only lived to be 5 or 6 as she had aggressive breast cancer sigh Our cat, Dolly is 5 now and very spoiled Alpha cat, I don't think she would tolerate another cat since I did not get one to go with her as a baby. I kind of wish I had. Thanks for the great swap and I hope to swap with you sometime soon!!
Response: I found the mouse postalette at my local thrift store! I have received some from other swappers, or ordered on eBay or Etsy, same as you. I don't have any secret sources. I did find one "new" but older set of fold-n-mail sheets on Amazon.Yay cat lovers!

Response: Mesa Verde and others out west are well worth it. There are still many I would love to go to and haven't made it. I encourage you to get out there and see the beauty!
