Description:

Typically zines are made to be reproduced and distributed to different people. For this zine swap, we will be making and swapping an original, master copy zine.

If you have never made a zine before and aren't familiar with the folding technique, here's a great video demo: Sam Proof - How to Make a Zine.

Last year, I outlined the same swap project in a blog post: Zine It.

Zine Theme: Found Poetry

From Found Poetry Review:

  • Found poetry is the literary version of a collage. Poets select a source text or texts — anything from traditional texts like books, magazines and newspapers to more nontraditional sources like product packaging, junk mail or court transcripts — then excerpt words and phrases from the text(s) to create a new piece.

When making your zine, please make sure found poetry is present on at least 3 pages.

In keeping with the group's style, your zine will need to display cut & paste collage techniques--but you're free to incorporate other mediums as well.

Standard mini zines use a sheet of 8.5"x11" paper, but larger paper will do - just as long as it's rectangular. In the zines I made last year, I used 9"x12".

While this is a swap for an original master copy zine, you can make copies of your zine for your own purposes. Just send the original to your partner.

Finally, make sure to sign the last page (the back cover, page 8) with your name/username. Date, social media links, etc. are optional.
