Description:

(Edited 1 Jun 07 - NZ time ;) )

Hi dudes and dudettes,

I have heaps of idea's for swaps but I really can't wait to do this particular one so here's my first public one!

Do you check your mailbox everyday and always grin, clap and do a little dance when you've received a swap/mail? Okay fine, maybe you don't but I do! :D

Even though it's always filled with girly things and things YOU like, do you wonder if your other half gets a teency eency weeny bit jealous?

Do you wonder how they'd react if they received a surprise in the mail without even expecting it?

Well this one's for you!

Firstly: you need a partner/spouse/fiancé/husband/wife that you live with and is NOT a member of swap-bot. (otherwise it won't work!)

Second: you'll need a rating of 4.8 and above and no newbie's (unless you have feedback from somewhere else) - I’m not being mean, I'll even host one for newbie's if there is enough interest, I just don't want anyone to miss out.

Now the nitty gritty ;)

  • We'll all post (on this main page) 10 items that your partner/spouse/fiancé/husband/wife would like and your partner's first name only.

  • Out of those 10 items listed your swap partner will pick 3 and send these to you, addressed to your 'other half'.

  • We will have 2 partners each so that we all get a variety :)

EDITED SECTION

PLEASE make sure at least 5 items can be found around the WORLD and that they aren't overly expensive!

You MUST be helpful and respond to your partners messages if they need help in:

  • picking out items

  • substitute items in case they can't get those specified by you

  • or anything else that they need to ask you about

RATINGS:

~~ Please rate fairly ~~

If you receive more than 3 items that deserves a heart. (obviously any extra's can't be old, used, yuck etc.)

If they fulfill all 3 then that deserves a 5

Also please be patient as international mail takes a bit longer.

NB: Unfortunately the host will be unable to do any angels for this swap - Hopefully that won't be needed!

Participant's list will be checked -after- the signup date to weed out any suspicious peeps.

ALSO - since this is my first swap please go easy on me (heehee), all suggestions are more than welcome and will be considered. Feel free to ask questions if I haven't been clear.

Hope everyone has fun!

My partner's name: Paul

The list of things he will like :)

♥ any hot rod / classic / performance car magazine

♥ Cadbury or any good quality milk chocolate

♥ the smell of lavender (he has a sensitive side, haha)

♥ anything with a skull on it

♥ anything to do with pirates

♥ he'd like to vacation in Japan and Greece so interpret that as you wish

♥ a new keying! - he'd love one with something 'black' attached to it

♥ anything sick/twisted/weird (e.g. an article or a gag toy or a website?)

♥ some recipe's for your favourite dishes - he's a great chef!

♥ lastly anything that has to do with 'Ford' (e.g. maybe a pen, car sticker/decal, a coaster - just ideas!)

Gee that was harder than I thought! I mean I know everything I like but it took all 2 of my brain cells to think of a list for him.

drewzel 05/23/2007 #

Hmm, tricky... My husband is Dave. He likes: - motorbikes :roadbikes, vintage, classic, Honda, Suzuki - Ford cars - socks for his big feet - white chocolate - dogs, we have staffordshire bull terriers - he's a computer networking teacher - so any computer related silliness, magazines, Linux is his choice - he loves Sci-Fi - Star Trek, Stargate etc - anything astronomy - planets, stars etc - savory snack food, chips, pringles, all that sorta stuff - anything that would make him laugh - music - he likes classical, and also likes people like Brian Ferry, Iggy Pop, Devo, David Bowie and Pink Floyd - something just for him that I can't steal :P - he loves the TV show Red Dwarf - anything related to the Muppet Shop : especially the swedish Chef or Beaker Is that enough stuff? As he's a stinky hairy fella he's not into any "male grooming" stuff at all. I don't mind because I get all the bathroom space :P If you're having trouble just message me. Food is always your best option I think. hahah. Especially fun stuff that you can't get in Australia.

drewzel 05/23/2007 #

Muppet show, not shop!

SummerLion 05/23/2007 #

I'm going to join, but I'll have to think about it before writing a list. Why is this so hard? Live with somebody this long, it should be easy to rattle this stuff off.

spinjenny 05/23/2007 #

Things Richard likes:

  • Chocolate - dark is better, but he will eat almost any chocolate

  • Cookies/biscuits

  • Architecture, particularly traditional or wooden buildings or Japanese or by the US architects Greene & Greene - pictures or magazines about traditional architecture in your country/region would go down well

  • Japanese culture - art, poetry, films, food, countryside, history, textiles - but not the modern 'cute' stuff

  • Art - he does mostly portraits in pencil or pen & ink drawing or clay sculpture, so supplies would be welcome, or books or magazines witn good example of drawing or sculpture

  • Science fiction/fantasy - including some cover art (no, not the half-dressed girls kind, though on second thoughts he probably likes that too)

  • Old books

  • Old sailing ships - picures, books, articles, anything about them

  • Music - female singers such as Loreena McKennitt, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple - world and folk music (traditional and modern) - orthodox church music and similar sounds

  • More chocolate

If in doubt, message me and I'll try to help.

chickenlil7000 05/23/2007 #

Things CHAD would like: 1. Anything Irish-some days I swear that man IS a leprechaun 2. Junk Food- any variety is good as long as it doesn't contain mint and chocolate together. 3. He adores LOST- I never got it myself, I tried but apparently I missed a very important episode or two..lol. 4. He is a huge computergeek so anything techy would be great. 5. Tongue in cheek humor-the more offbeat the better. 6. beach-y things- shells, toys, sunblock( he is Irish after all)that sort of thing. 7. Anything sci-fi. he's not picky. 8. Manly driving music-you know the stuff that those of us with more delicate sensibilities would consider angry. 9. Address labels- he's always griping that he never gets any...lol. 10. Uh Oh, running out of steam....Something for his evil little dog. He adores that dog. If that dog could cook I would be a single woman again...hahhahahaha.

  9. likes to hunt and fish (like you didn't see that coming - lol!)

I know that he will love this! Thanks sugareyes - great swap idea!!

squintgrad 05/23/2007 #

oh yes, and I forgot to add - I too do a little hand-clapping, dance, etc. around the house when I get a swap in the mail. our partners deserve a package just for having to watch this on a regular basis - lol!

Meadow 05/23/2007 #

I am a newbie and can't join but what a fantastic idea! And I loved reading the lists for everyone's other half. Makes me wish I could see them when they all get their packages!!!!!! AWESOME!

user7866 05/23/2007 #

This is such an awesome swap idea, sugareyes! We all know how jealous the other halves get when we do the happy mail dance. :)

my fiancé, Chris likes:

  • Star Wars (ok, LOVES Star Wars)
  • tv shows like Lost, Heroes, The Office, Mail Call, any of those "how things are made" type of shows
  • movies: like Reservoir Dogs, wild-west, or war dramas
  • candy/snacks/junk food: stuff like Smarties, Fun Dip (actually just the lik-a-sticks part), dark chocolate, popcorn, etc.
  • woodworking magazines/plans/etc
  • action figure/collecting magazines
  • MC Escher
  • music like Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, System of a Down, the Rugburns, etc
  • grilling
  • Coke/Coca-Cola
  • his favorite colors are black, dark greens, blues
  • off-beat/odd/dark humor type of things

Ok, that was a lot harder than I thought! And I'm not sure how to intrepet some of those things, so that's why I listed a lot of random things. Even some Star Wars address labels would be awesome. If this list is not good, or you need more info please let me know!

Thanks! I can't wait to see what everyone's other halves get!

user8335 05/23/2007 #

Sounds like fun! My husband's name is Scott. He would love anything to do with the following:

  1. Chocolate (or anything sweet- BIG sweet tooth on that one!)
  2. All things Red Sox
  3. Same for the New England Patriots
  4. Lighthouses
  5. All things Irish
  6. Baseball caps (he just can't get enough!)
  7. Jimmy Buffett
  8. Anything Family Guy
  9. Nautical-themed goodies
  10. He LOVES unusual hot sauces... esp those with funny labels, or something specific to your region.

Thanks for setting this up!

spoonergregory 05/23/2007 #

What a good idea for a swap! My partner, Jon, is always jealous of my Swapbot addiction!

He likes -

  1. Photography - especially vintage film camera equipment and old photographs. He can spend hours pouring over interesting photographs and articles about photography!

  2. Art - drawing, painting, printmaking - he has a great love of interesting drawing pens and pencils.

  3. Maps - all types; old, new, small, big, even just a map postcard of where you live would keep him occupied for a long time!

  4. Mountain biking - he loves looking over interesting rides and stunts in mountain bike magazines. We live in a very flat part of the UK, so there's not much opportunity for him to go really fast down steep hills!

  5. Cooking - especially interesting recipes and ideas for bread and cakes.

  6. His guitar - although I think he really wants a banjo! He loves interesting folk/country music as well.

  7. Football - he's supports Plymouth Argyle, but I think he'd be really interested to find out things about the teams and sports that other people's husbands/partners etc support!

  8. Gardening - he is obsessed with our tiny vegetable patch... and growing anything!

  9. Architecture - of all kinds; modern, historic, local etc.

  10. Dark chocolate - the darker the better!

I hope that helps - just get in touch if you need more information or some tips!

Ok! I now have a rating of 5 AND a heart so I am in! Yeah!

Please note -- SILVANO does not have my last name. So you can send it in care of [c/o] me, but just put SILVANO on it. Hee hee he will be soooo surprised!

Silvano likes lots of things - he is easy to shop for...

  • total sci-fi geek. Absolutely loves Star Trek and Doctor Who. Also watches BSG and Stargate. Loves Star Wars. Anything to do with William Shatner is good too. Also a big fan of Catherine Zeta-Jones.

  • he loves German Lugers. He is a gunsmith and likes to work on these. No, do not send him a gun... but once I was shopping at Hobby Lobby and there was actually a German Luger fridge magnet I bought him, which he loved, so I thought I would mention it.

  • Silvano is from Italy, grew up there, and is fluent. Anything to do with Italy will probably be good for him.

  • Popcorn freak. Loves popcorn -- movie popcorn, microwave popcorn, flavored popcorn. Also loves chocolate [not dark].

  • big into woodworking so any beautiful little wooden thing is for him

  • like music -- loves Manhattan Transfer and music like that, in 4 part harmony. Also loves Harry Connick Jr and anything like that.

  • has a great sense of humor -- anything silly makes him laugh

  • he really likes figuring things out so puzzles or anything like that are good -- he's mechanically oriented and likes fixing things, putting stuff together.

  • he is a singer and has a theater background. Performs in a Boars Head Feast every year, sings madrigals, etc. Loves the Renaissance Fair.

I think that's it.

Meadow 05/27/2007 #

Oh yeah, he loves EAGLES as well!

SummerLion 05/27/2007 #

Okay. This was hard, but shouldn't have been, because Glenn and I are pretty much opposites...

(Also, like Meadow, I don't share his last name, so please just address it to Glenn c/o me.)

  1. He's retired Air Force... Anything to do with the Air Force would make him happy.
  2. He lived in Germany for 6 years and really misses it. Anything German (esp. food).
  3. He plays electric and acoustic guitar. Guitar picks, music mags, anything guitar-related.
  4. His daddy was a bluegrass fiddler and he's trying to learn.
  5. He loves good milk chocolate.
  6. Gimme caps... You know, those baseball-type caps that have something written on them, an ad or a place name...
  7. He collects pocket knives.
  8. He loves fly fishing.
  9. He loves blues, bluegrass and metal, so a mix cd would be great.
  10. He's a computer freak... teaches prison inmates how to use them. I dunno, CD holders, a cool mouse pad...

Hope this is helpful.

lilmissthrifty 05/28/2007 #

I;m sorry...but can I sneak a few more things in... just in case you need more ideas... Anything for camping would be sooper dooper or

any local coffee from your area...

or postcards!!!

Ok that's it!!!!Thanks ♥

Suzanne 05/29/2007 #

My partner's name is Cory, but you'll need to address it to Cory c/o [My Name] because we both have university mail. It'll go in my box, but we check mail together so it'll be shared as soon as it comes out of the box. No favorite colors or hated colors and no food allergies so we're good there. Just don't shave your cat and include all the hair, since we're both allergic to the kitties.

As for a list of happy little lovings, Cory would adore: candy from your neck of the woods (Bonus points for Asian or lychee candy!) anything related to Doctor Who (old or new) a Sanrio/San X notepad a hand-written letter or note a mix cd with alternative or hip-hop or rock or new music (Doesn't have to be in English!) a matchbox car anything related to the Philadelphia Eagles or the Philadelphia Phillies (or any other Philadelphia team, for that matter) witty, geeky, or otherwise interesting fridge magnets a copy of your 'zine pictures of graffiti, urban decay, and city scapes (Bonus points for Asian cities or Philadelphia, PA, USA.)

And the bonus item on the list is: a data CD with some of your favorite Photoshop brushes and/or fonts (Nothing that's licensed or paid for, please! Just stuff that's free to share and pass along so we aren't ripping anyone off.)

SummerLion 05/30/2007 #

Ok, I have a rating high enough now to participate. Great swap idea by the way! My partners name is William (He does not share my last name so first name on envelope/packaging will be fine). Here is the list: • Dark Chocolate • Science Fiction (Discworld, Farscape, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica) • Bar Items (He enjoys making different cocktails and hopes to set up a small home bar in the future so any bar/alcohol/drinking novelty or item would be fine.) • Dungeons And Dragons (The Game) • Computers (Enjoys playing games and such on his computer so anything computer related would be fine, except for programs) • Barbecue items (He recently purchased a BBQ so any BBQ novelties or items would be good) • Music (His favourite artists are Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, Creedence, Pink Floyd. Please no CD’s as American cd’s don’t work in Australia. Any memorabilia of them are fine) • Reading (He enjoys Science Fiction and Fantasy novels. Likes Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett) • Anime (His favourites are Bleach, Hellsing, Onegai Teacher, Trigun, Lunar Legend Tsukihime) • TV shows like Primeval, Spicks And Specks, Iron Chef, Myth Busters. smokeandmirrors 05/30/2007 #

Oh and i should definitely have added Doctor Who, he is a huge fan.

Also sorry about the lack of spacing above, i'm not sure what went wrong.

SparklyPinkStarSnowflake 05/31/2007 #

heehee that's ok - maybe if you press enter and start each item on a new line? with one space above and below it?

SparklyPinkStarSnowflake 06/ 2/2007 #

don't worry ;) I think I'll have to start a series of these swaps for our 'other half' if this goes well :)

And any newbie who wants to, can start one for newbie's and I don't mind you using the idea :) It's all about fun!

I can't setup a newbie one at the mo as I'm trying to catch up on my swaps and wouldn't want to take responsibility of another one til my hit list is all cleared ;)

♥ your host ;)

Lava 06/ 3/2007 #

What an excellent swap.

My partners name is Richard.

Things I think he would like:-

  • He is really into camping and bushcraft so anything to do with that, gadgets, articles, mess tin etc.

  • Chocolate, cookies, sweets from your country (esp Hershey peanut butter if you are from US, this will get you a heart...lol)

  • He likes reading, anything really. Sci-Fi, crime, comedy. But also non fiction too, things to do with nature, the natural world, I bought him a book recently about clouds if thats any help.

  • He loves music, rock is propably his favorite but he likes everything, so a compilation CD would be good.

  • Socks are always good, he never seems to have any, even though I am always buying them. He is a UK size 9 in shoes.

  • T-shirt, I would probably describe his style as skater. Natural colours, black, green, blue, with a picture, logo or words on the front, would be great if it was native to your country. Nothing too bright or white. He is a medium.

  • He loves cooking and baking and is into making his own beer and wine so recipes would be good, again anything native to your country would be great (I keep saying this, knowing my luck my swap partners will both be from the UK..lol)

  • He is into computers and used to play games like World of Warcraft, although doesn't get the time now.

That is all I can think of at the moment. I will post more as I think of it.

  2. Likes outdoor activities: hiking, rollerblading, camping (any small gadgets to aid with the camping experience would be great).

Well, ya'll, we will definitely have to do this one again. I was telling my bestest, dearest, most wonderful friend Jim about it and now he is jealous because I actually put my husband in instead of him. P-shaa.....what was I thinking?!?LOL

chieffa 06/ 5/2007 #

Sugareyes, is there a minimum dollar amount for this swap?

SparklyPinkStarSnowflake 06/ 5/2007 #

Hmm - minimum would be not sure actually! I don't really know how much USD$ or what it buys nowadays and I'm all the way in NZ... but try to get new things... and the rule of only send out what you'd think they'd love and something you will be proud of sending out...

Any suggestions guys?

Also - Cheryl - I will pm you because you will need to put an alternative list up - meaning another 10 and if you could be more vague this time or give us some room to be imaginative? I require everyone to put a list up where at least 5 can be found worldwide and I'm afraid I can't find a single item on your list in NZ... :(

And thanks for the websites but I'm afraid I have also never, if rarely, have heard of those - I'm not saying that's wrong as we're all individuals and the sites look super-cool! but what I'm trying to say is that I don't think I'd be able to get anything from those sites from New Zealand...

Also I don't mean to offend you! :) This way if you put another list up it will guarantee that your bf will receive something rather than receiving nothing because someone couldn't find those exact items.

Regards,

Kat

Sorry, I'm late with my note about my other half. His name is Jeff.

He likes (in no degree of order)

peanut butter (candy/lollies/cookies/bikkies) He's been trying some of the regional lollies/candies I've been getting in the regional swaps. He really like dark chocolate, but is happy with Hersheys. He's open to trying just about anything new foodwise, so long as it's not seafood. cheese apple computers (not expecting a computer ;-), but he likes anything to do with Macs) He's learning/teaching himself to play the guitar (acoustic and electric) He's into all sorts of music and likes listening to some of the mix CDs I've been getting Anything to do with historic old theatres or cool old buildings science fiction

I think that's specific enough to Jeff without being tricky to find anywhere, I hope! (PM me if you have any questions!)

fusionbento 06/15/2007 #

Danielle F and chickenlil7000 I have sent your partners parcels today . It might take a little while so be patient. It should be between 2 to 4 weeks, the cost of airmail was prohibitive otherwise!

user7661 06/25/2007 #

hey to my partners, my packages will be a little late... long story short, me and my partner just broke up and all my cash has gone on moving out of his place. Dont panic, they are still coming, just might be a little late is all. Thanks for understanding guys.

Suzanne 06/25/2007 #

I am so glad I sent early on this swap. Just knowing it is done, gone, and already being enjoyed has made my life a lot happier.

This was a fantastic swap! I'd love to see another one in the future (maybe in a few months?) with less heteronormative language. I know we don't have a lot of queer swappers, but it would be nice to open it up and make sure they felt like it was ok to jump into a partner swap.

Meadow 06/25/2007 #

Ok I just mailed to Cheryl's partner today -- it was really hard to find him stuff [plus shipping OMGTENDOLLARS!]. Will take 5-10 business days. Hope he likes what I sent him.

drewzel's better half got his on his bday some time ago, yay!

Silvano got his 1st package on Sat and OMG he LOVED it. spoonergregory was incredibly generous and thoughtful! He got:

  • British woodworking magazine [filled with projects, some of which he has already been ordered to begin making, ha ha]
  • huge bar of chocolate with cranberries in it [which he has refused to open as long as I am around, dangit -- but I am determined to snatch the packaging at least, bc there are sailing vessels on it!!!]
  • ginger scented candle in a tin
  • Jaime Oliver Italian cookbook -- like 12 yr olds we keep gigling over who's gonna eat the "sticky Italian figs"] [not me!!! LOL]
  • really cool wooden puzzle -- he was playing with it quite a bit
  • styrofoam mini model of a WW2 airplane!! he put it together straight away, started flinging it around the room!
  • and the piece de resistance!!! -- TWO packets of Doctor Who stickers from a season we haven't got here yet!!!!

Not only that, but everything was individually wrapped! And we had people over too so everyone was clustered around him, ooohing and aaaahhhing at all his swag.

Oh my, he was so incredibly overwhelmed and so am I. He gave me the biggest hug, which I now pass on to you (((HUGS))

SummerLion 06/26/2007 #

spoonergregory 07/ 2/2007 #

I'm glad Silvano liked everything Meadow - this was my first 'big' swap and it was so much fun shopping for surprises for someone else! Let me know if he lets you try that chocolate - I'm quite tempted to go and get some for myself!

SummerLion 07/ 6/2007 #
