Vegetarian mom to several adorable cats and happily married to my soulmate, the love of my life, how cool is that!
Weaving, knitting, spinning gardening, yoga, baking, bike riding quilting, fiber dyeing and more pull me in many different directions and keep my life interesting.
My absolute favorite place is the Elephant Sanctuary. My Swap-Bot name is in honor & memory of a dear, sweet elephant named Jenny. Read about her joy filled reunion with Shirley after 22 years of separation at www.elephants.com.
I firmly believe in charitable giving and support the Elephant Sanctuary and many other charitable organizations, among my other favorites are Pasado's Safe Haven, the Richmond SPCA - our local no-kill animal shelter, Habitat for Humanity, World Vision, Heifer International and Donors Choose. Amazing folks doing amazing things to make the world a better place.
Please consider donating to your local animal shelter. It doesn't have to be money, it can be your craft and/or your time. Make a blanket or fleece toy, play with a dog, snuggle a cat. The love you send out will return to you ten fold!
I avoid items that are tested on animals or contain animal ingredients.
I believe in the three R's Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.
Broadway music now and forever! James Taylor, Nancy Griffith, Lascivious Biddies, Zap Mama, Lyle Lovett, and Gealic Storm are current favorites. Oh, I love, love, love bagpipe music!
Classics, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Audrey Hepburn Jimmy Stewart; movies do not get much better than that! Return to Me, Secondhand Lions. I love a happy-ending and do not like stressful or overly suspenseful movies.
We do not have TV (ie no cable), we do watch movies or DVDs of programs we like Saving Grace (Earl cracks me up!) and Bones.
Knitting - especially socks!, weaving and spinning are currently tops. Followed closely by quilting and dyeing. Also collaige, printmaking, painting, drawing. Favorite colors for knitting think warm and cozy curled up beside a winter fire. I stay away from yellowy-greens and greeny-yellows but lemon and evergreen are lovely colors. Also currently leaning more and more towards solids and semi solids and fiber in its natural color more than dyed fiber. Blacks, grays, browns.
I am a voracious reader. I have always had a keen interest in early Brittish and American history told through personal accounts. Old Irish and Welsh folk and fairy tales. I adore a good children's book; especially the amazing and lovely artwork of Trina Schart Hyman and the mind or Dr. Seuss.
No mysteries, suspense, horror or violence.
Oh, I love Sharpies - Ultra Fine tip in any and every color!
I admire most anthing that is homemade or hand crafted. I am always impressed by the work and creativity of others. Our most treasured wedding gifts are pieces of sculpture, quilts, rugs, pottery and wall hangings made for us by friends. Everybody makes something, what do you make?
