10/13/10 Just found out I need knee surgery. I'm all caught up with my swaps & I'm mailing out my last two tags tomorrow. It will be very hard for me not to sign up for a new swap, but obviously I won't be able to get to the post office to mail anything for a little while. But I'll be back!
I'm a quilter who also knits. I love all fabrics, but lately have been getting into 1930's fabrics. My favorite color is green, but I love all colors. For the past few years I've been knitting socks, mittens & hats because they're portable, unlike my sewing! I love chocolate, never chew gum, & my favorite foods are cheeseburgers & pizza. I love the rain. And snow. My favorite season is autumn. I love to camp & hike. I enjoy gardening & tend to plant flowers that the birds & butterflies like. My favorites are sunflowers & daisies. I've done most crafts over the years, & I would like to teach myself how to make bracelets & pierced earrings. I love to read, mostly nonfiction, particularly history books, biographies, but even historical novels. I have 2 dogs & 2 cats. I collect cows (in various materials & on various items), Santas & collectible spoons. I've recently gotten back into photography. I love to bake; cooking, not so much. But I'm married to a great guy who loves to cook, so that works out! We have two daughters ... the youngest just graduated from college. We lived in Ireland for 5 years while the children were growing up. I recycle & compost. My husband & I have "adopted" a platoon of paratroopers stationed in Afghanistan; we send packages when we can, & the guys really appreciate it. I belong to a quilt guild that does a lot of sewing &quilting for various charities. My personal pet project is the local Susan B. Anthony Project, making pillowcases for the families that pass through. Oh, & I work full-time.
Mama Mia; The Holiday; My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Gone With the Wind, Under the Tuscan Sun. Also, Finding Nemo.
Favorite Books:
Too many to mention. Will read anything historical, anything concerning King Arthur, anything Celtic (Ireland, Scotland, Cornwall, Wales, etc.). Love Shakespeare & Winnie the Pooh. Also poetry. (Majored in English. Two degrees -- one in journalism, the other in Communication/English.)
I've been quilting since before there were rotary cutters. I love traditional quilt patterns, but will work on anything that appeals to me at the moment. I love bright colors, especially lime green, which really makes me happy. I love batiks, Oriental fabrics (outlined in gold), fabrics in deep, deep colors. I don't care for pastels, but I will admit that I've developed a recent passion for 1930's fabrics ... I plan to keep the quilt I make from those 1930's fabrics ... for a change .I tend to give away most of what I make. I also knit. I gave up making Aran sweaters, so now I concentrate on take-along projects, like socks, mittens & hats. I couldn't live without my sewing machine. I enjoy making things, especially gifts for others, like tote bags, pincushions, lots of little things. I'm always on the lookout for patterns & ideas! As for crafts, I've tried most of those, too. I love scrapbooking, but my time is limited, so I try to make small things, like small albums & cards. I have a weakness for that scrapbooking aisle in the craft stores! My oldest daughter loves to scrapbook, so she has dibs on my supplies. I would like to learn how to make pierced earrings & bracelets. I'm game for learning a new craft!
Sunflowers, chocolate, green tea (but please do NOT send any tea), hot chocolate, lime green anything,100% cotton fabric (especially stripes, polka dots, paisleys, plaids), yarn, books, bookmarks, Star Trek, cows, sheep, chickens, collector spoons, Santas, paper, country music, Celtic music, musicals, fudge, pizza, cheesburgers, buttons, embellishments for quilts or scrapbooking, thread, chapsticks, cashews, unicorns, logic puzzles, gel pens, purple ink pens, very fine-line Sharpies (pens, rather than markers), fancy pencils (I take them to work in the hope that no one will "confiscate" them), my dogs Rory & Jack, my cats Arthur & Merlin, cancelled postage stamps, elastic bead bracelets, tote bags of all sorts,100% cotton fabric charms (5" squares), handmade Christmas ornaments, handmade bookmarks, handmade anthing, scrapbooking supplies (like patterned papers, vellum, quotes, stickers but not those tiny reward ones or stars, glue dots, etc.), sewing-related items, flip-flops, maps, quotations, pins that look like quilt blocks or cows or cats or something fun, Celtic crosses, anything with words on it (fabric, paper, etc), rubber stamps & clear acrylic stamps. I am very word-oriented.
PLEASE, when you mail something to me, could you please use postage stamps rather than that postage meter strip? If you have to go to the post office anyway (like I always do), could you please use real stamps? I just love postage stamps!
Chewing gum, coffee, licorice, taffy, anything that smells of cigarette smoke. (I'm sure there's more; will add as things occur to me.)
The Closer
I really don't watch a lot of television, since most of it is re-runs anyway. But when I do "watch," I'm also either knitting or reading!
When you write on the back of a postcard that you're sending to me, please tell me something about where you live, or maybe something about yourself. My favorite types of (naked) postcards are:
If you'd like to do a private swap, please pm me.
Whatever you choose to send me, please keep it clean, like in not x-rated, okay? Thank you.
I love ONE-ON-ONE SWAPS, so if you see something you think I can send you, please do not hesitate to ask!
Please be aware that I spend a lot of time pouring over profiles, so I can find something I can send that my swap partner will love. It's wonderful when people provide information on their profiles; not so wonderful when their profiles don't reflect anything relevant to the swap. (That's when the hair-pulling begins!) I want you to know that I spend time & thought putting my swap together, even if it's just matching the right postcard to the individual. And I really appreciate it when someone else does the same -- I can always tell when someone reads my profile because it shows in what I receive. I really do want to make people happy, & nothing pleases me more than when I accomplish just that ... even if it's "only" a postcard!
