About Me

PENPALS: I am open to anyone around the world who is looking for someone to correspond with on a regular (or slightly irregular) basis. We can swap emails, postcards, letters, small objects, treats, or any other small and inexpensive items. Just drop me a PM to let me know.

HEARTS: I don't give hearts "just because." With that being said, I try to find every little reason or excuse to give them :) So after making sure that a swap has been sent on time and has met all the requirements, I will give a heart for three reasons: 1. You have included something related to my favourite theme. (Should be pretty obvious :D) 2. You have included something related to my second favourite theme. 3. You have included something related to my third favourite theme.

I studied linguistics and translations at university and am now doing translation work for my father. My family is from China, but I was born, raised, and educated in Canada, and I consider myself more Canadian than Chinese. I have a passion for languages. My goal is to learn six, but I also like to learn bits and pieces of others (grammar, general knowledge, interesting facts...). I stopped taking piano lessons years ago, but I still play for fun from time to time.

Random Facts:

  • I consider myself only partly tone-deaf (I suck without background music, but I actually sound okay when I'm singing along)
  • I love trying exotic cuisine (insects, live octopus, raw fish...)
  • I can do the Spanish "r", but I can't do the French one.
  • I have never met a language I didn't like.
  • I suck at multi-tasking.

Favorite Crafts

I recently started doing crafts out of sheer boredom. I am in no way an artist, but the projects I'm undertaking are quite fun. In a swap, anything for my projects will be greatly appreciated:

  • anything POKEMON
  • anything TINTIN
  • anything gothic, emo, punk, dark, etc.
  • black and white sequins (the bigger the better so I can cut them into shapes I need)
  • felt (orange, red, yellow, off-white/light yellow, dark turquoise, pink)
  • tracing paper (about 23cm X 18cm)
  • washi tape　
  • postalettes
  • anything in Romanian or Icelandic
  • double-sided tape (not the foam kind)
  • candy or treats from another country (to indulge myself while crafting!)

I LOVE POCKET LETTERS!!! It's like going on a scavenger hunt to fill all the pockets. I'm horrible at decorating it, though (I'm not an artist).

Dislikes, Pet Peeves

  • sports
  • politics
  • religion (I respect your beliefs, but please don't preach)
  • people who judge others based only on appearance
  • people who don't cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze (and people who do it into their hands right before a handshake)
  • people who insist that Romanian is a Slavic language (it has Slavic influence, but the Romanian spoken today is a blend of the old Dacian language and Latin)

POKEMON!!!

I'm no expert when it comes to the video games, but I love watching the series and checking out the online Pokédex. I love anything relating to Pokémon, and am collecting trading cards, figurines, and plushies. I am also on the lookout for Pokémon-themed postcards, but that's probably a long shot. I found some official trading cards in Italian while exploring Italy, and I'm now on the lookout for anything (not just trading cards) in foreign languages.

Comment: I really dislike having to give a 3. I have contacted you repeatedly about fixing the swap, giving you many chances to resend and even offered to do an additional swap to fix this one, all of those attempts you rejected. You also did not respond to things I repeatedly pointed out in my messages but you kept ignoring what I wrote. Instead you kept subtly trying to threaten with giving me a 3 rating (what I perceive as revenge rating), even after you said you received and loved my part of the swap. There was no apology from your side, instead you kept asking me to just not rate you. I am still open to change the 3 into a 5 if you are willing to fix this swap.
Response: To those checking my ratings: This was my first PL swap, and I did not realize that decorations were mandatory. I offered to send nine decorated pieces of cardstock to make up for my mistake.

Comment: Thaks for your 15 questons email. Travelling is something I would like to do but can't for similar financial reasons right now. Sometimes I think (or hope) that doing it when I am older and more mature will be a better experience anyway.
