Hi there! I'm a 26-year-old female postgrad student of publishing and literature. I'm from California originally, but live in the UK during my studies and hope to eventually live there permanently!
As of last month I'm currently back in California for a short time, but will be starting a new course of study later on this year. My hometown is in a desert and it's too sunny for me! But for now, I do appreciate the warmer weather. We'll see how I feel come June, though. :p
I'm joining this site because it incorporates a lot of the things I love - writing, crafting, and reaching out to people from other parts of the world. I'm excited to be doing this :)
I like melodic stuff with good lyrics, as a rule. Alt, folk, folk-pop, electro, 60s, 70s, & 90s are all very good bets, but mainly I just listen for good stuff everywhere and anywhere - sometimes it's even a Top 40 hit. Sometimes.
Not much for country or metal, but there are always exceptions. I do like Dolly & Reba. :p
Would love to get some music recommendations on here, especially from folks outside the US!
Books are a huge part of my life, and I have fairly eclectic tastes. I like literary fiction and classics, magical realism, YA stuff, graphic novels and manga, and random books from the dollar or pound store. I really like obscure stuff that nobody else is reading.
Please don't hesitate to recommend books to me! I want to know your favorite, and also, if you've read some lesser known stuff, I'm very interested in reading that too.
Not much for horrors/thrillers, crime dramas, bro films or chick flicks, but most anything else is good.
Comedies mainly. I probably watch British panel shows more than anything else. Also love 70s & 80s sitcoms from both sides of the Atlantic. Otherwise -
US: The Nanny, Frasier, That 70s Show, The Big Bang Theory, Archer, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Spongebob, Uncle Grandpa (what? I like weird as hell stuff), House Hunters International, and late night talk shows.
UK: Come Dine With Me, Absolutely Fabulous, Keeping Up Appearances, Black Books, The IT Crowd, Peep Show & David Mitchell's eighty billion other shows, Gavin & Stacey, and Little Britain. And anything Stephen Fry! :)
Paper crafts! Particularly collage, but some drawing and stamping too.
Have dabbled in crochet and sewing but am by no means proficient with either.
Colorful stuff, bookish things, cats, fairies, angels, kawaii and other Japanese designs, European things, international things in general, cats, stationery, funny greetings cards, magazine cutouts, stickers of course, cats, photos from around your town, butterflies, vintage (esp. 60s/70s), old train tickets you have lying around, cats.
No edible or drinkable items please!
