About Me

I took an extended break from swapping in 2021 because of a family illness. I am ready to start swapping again-but wanted to account for the time away..

Hi! I love to journal, and keep several different types for different purposes. I love my hobonichi, my midori travelers' notebook, and my bullet journal the best. I'm not very artistic, but I find sketching and watercolor very relaxing. I love to send snail mail, I'm still new at mail art, but learning as I go.

I have 3 young children who keep me very busy. We also have two dogs, a Border Collie mix and a poodle. We also have guinea pigs named Flash and Rex.I work in non-profits, but have recently stepped away from my career for a bit to have more time to care for my children. I have one son with special needs.

Along with Journaling, I love to read. I am a big sci fi nerd, and I collect fountain pens. My family loves to camp, hike and canoe. (And of course cook, as my screen name suggests!)

I've started dabbling in watercolors. I'm by no means any good, but I love the process of painting. Art Journaling, and coloring books also bring me calm. I think of art as a moving meditation of sorts.

Favorite Books

I love to read pretty much anything from fantasy to non fiction, but especially love mystery and thrillers. Ruth Ware and Rachel Harrison are my current favorite writers. Jane Austen would be my favorite of all time, and anything in that genre. I also love mystery, sci fi/fantasy, thrillers, fiction and non fiction.

Favorite Television

I have eclectic taste in TV. There's the usual sit coms and dramas. But I also like quirky shows, anything British (Endeavor!) and vintage mysteries (Poirot). I love Doctor Who, Sherlock AND Elementary, You're The Worst, and any Star Trek. I love cooking shows, especially Chopped and Halloween Wars. Lately, I have been enjoying The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and The Umbrella Academy! I can't wait for Wednesday to come out! I am also a big Bob's Burgers fan.

Favorite Themes/Things

-Fountain pens

-Purple, Green, Grey

-Nature, botanical, mountains

-Gardening, vegetables, Herbs, Artichokes, mushrooms

-Goats, Dogs, Sloths, hedgehogs, armadillo

-Anything Tim Burton or Alice in Wonderland

-Hello Kitty

-Stamps (rubber or postage!)

-Flow magazine

-Yoga, meditation, simplicity

-Cabins, camping, backpacking

-Cooking, canning

-watercolor painting

-Vintage

-Bicycles

-I really have eclectic tastes, and I love variety!

Tea of Choice

Tea seems to be a big deal around here. I have no problem with that. I drink all kinds, but prefer real tea over herbal or infusions. My standard is Earl Grey, but I am also one of those weird people who likes Lapsang Souchang even though my husband calls it creosote tea. And my favorite green tea is gunpowder green tea. I also like different mint teas and chai. But I really love trying different kinds and I love the different tea bag art.

Please don't send...

I really do love almost everything, but as I have actually received a few of these things (and some are more problematic than others) I thought I should mention them.

Please don't send me:

-negative images on postcards or anywhere else. -political or religious items -Christmas themed items

I am extremely sensitive to cigarette smoke, so please don't send me items that have been exposed to cigarette smoke.

Coffee

I'm a coffee/tea addict. The first step is admitting you have a problem, right? And I love Starbucks (I know, I know) and Starbucks related paraphernalia. I love to collect cool Starbucks gift cards and other ephemera...

Craft Stuff I like

I'm not picky and really love seeing all the different things swappers share! But if we're doing a journal/craft swap, here are a few ideas of things I especially love: -Different types of paper, book, ledger, tea stained, etc.

-Paper twine and pretty string or yarn

-regular Traveler's notebook size inserts

-stationery, note paper, sticky notes, little envelopes, letter sets

-stickers of all kinds (please no reward stickers)

-washi (thin, big, regular, I love it all!)

-stamps or stamped images

-ephemera of all kinds, especially decorated paper (dyed or painted or whatever)

-anything handmade by you that you want to share

Swapping

I always complete and mail my swaps. If something happens that prevents me getting it out to you on time, I will let you know. If something isn't right with a swap you get from me, please let me know. I will resend- I really want my swaps to be enjoyed.

Comment: I love everything!! I love how you put a little note in an envied, your pretty writing of my name, the little extras (my mom HATES Starbucks and I'm going to use the stickers to make something funny for her for her birthday....you've given me inspiration!) Also interesting fun fact...in Canada we call what you call coloured pencils "pencil crayons". I only learned that you guys had a different name for them than us. We also had these special notebooks in primary school, some lined, some with blank pages, and some "inter-lined" for learning how to write letters, with the times tables listed on the back cover and they were called "scribblers", I don't know if you guys had those or maybe called them something else. I also have to stay faaaaar away from the craft stores. I love your sketch...reminds me of my mom's ATC's. You should try out Inktense watercolour pencils. They are permanent once dry and very vibrant and would make your drawings pop. Another excuse to go to the craft store lol. Oh my gosh...I think I need to just write you a letter, this review is too long. Thank you so much and happy anniversary!
Response: I love that you loved everything! Yes- write me a letter-I'd love to hear from you! We had similar books in school, I think they were just called Blue Books or exam books, and more used in college than grade school. I did not realize there was a different name for colored pencils! I can't remember which pencils I used on the sketch, but I did just buy some Derwent Inktense and I love them! I live watercolor pencils, but I don't think I'm using them to the best of their ability. This was a fun swap because I got to use a bunch of supplies I don't normally use.

Hello Wildspoon28, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm so backed up on my snail mail lol, but I want to say thank you so much for the awesome Valentine Package you recently sent me! As I'm typing this message, I'm currently munching on this awesome mushroom chocolate cookie that I did not know existed. I also love this awesome mushroom mug you picked out! Kinda bummed my partner didn't send for the "Valentine's Day Care Package-USA" but I really appreciate for making me happy for receiving this awesome box!!

I WAS SO THRILLED TO GET YOUR CHRISTMAS SWAP TODAY. I HAVEN'T OPENED IT YET. I actually just sent my first ever Hanukkah package to my friend, Julia, and timed it so it would ideally arrive in the middle. I will be saving your beautiful swap until Christmas Day, so expect a rating around that time. This is so lovely. Thank you so much. <3~
